Christians: May Mormons Receive Ashes from your Priest on Ash Wednesday?

First, Happy Ash Wednesday (do people even say that?).

Second, does your Christian tradition recognize Ash Wednesday? If so, would a Mormon be welcome to participate and receive the ash on his/her forehead from your clergy or other religious leader? Why or why not?

I can't imagine there's a problem. Every Ash Wednesday my daughter comes home from school with an ashy forehead even though her teachers and the priest know she's not Catholic. Drives me nuts.....

Ash Wednesday isn't only reserved to Catholics. Certainly, they're the main participants, but there are other Christians that practice as well.

My church celebrates Ash Wednesday and all are welcome to receive the ashes in the spirit of Jesus and of God's radical and inclusive love.

Done here.
In my former church, Great Lent begins on a Monday (which, in turn, begins on Sunday evening), and ashes are not imposed. A Mormon would be welcome to attend the Forgiveness Vespers that mark the beginning of Great Lent, but not to go to Confession.

I don't know why anyone wouldn't be allowed to participate that wanted to. I doubt they can mind-read your faith...
