IDK if Christ was ACTUALLY born on December 25th, nor do I really care. I also have no problem with celebrating His birth on December 25th.

That deals with making idols and worshipping them, not cutting down a tree and using it for festive decoration.

Yeah, people's birthdays weren't really celebrated back then, partly because of the lack of calendars, so people weren't even sure of their exact birth date half the time.

We have no way of finding out when Jesus was truly born- although there have been lots of opinions on the matter. I'm not too worried about Christmas trees- I don't worship them.

Jehovah our God is One
there is no record of his birth in the scriptures except for a few hints about the timing of it.

the gospels state that Shepherds were in the fields with their flocks overnight
“There were also in that same country shepherds living out of doors and keeping watches in the night over their flocks.” (Luke 2:4-8)
This indicates that Jesus was born in the warmer season.....Jerusalem's winter is December which would make reference to Shepherds being outdoors overnight as unlikely.

Dec 25 IS NOT the actual birthdate of Jesus Christ. It used to be a pagan holiday dedicated for the sun god in Rome. Early Christians, knowing the teaching that Jesus is the light of the world (that it is His light that should "illuminate" in each and everyone, and not that of the pagan god), thought that it is just appropriate to celebrate His coming into this world. But since Christians were being persecuted that time, they need to do it secretly. Hence, they celebrated the birth of Christ on that date so that pagans in Rome will think that they are celebrating for the pagan holiday but the fact is they're doing it in honor of Christ in order to replace the pagan holiday.

Rick,
It is really impossible to tell from the Holy Scriptures the exact date of Jesus' birth.
Many theologians believe Jesus' birth to have been around the first of October.
If you look at Luke 2:8, you will see that the shephards were staying out of doors at night at the time of Jesus birth. This does not happen in the area around Bethelem, in the Winter, as it is much too cold.
Another evidence is that Jesus was 6 Months younger than John the Baptist, Luke 1:26-36. As is recorded by Luke at Luke 2:1-5, and 3:1-3, we get the date of John starting his ministery. The date is exact if you look into history, because Luke wrote down all these officials and their offices, which, if you made a mistake, it could mean your life in Roman times. John started in the spring of 30CE and Jesus started 6Months later, in the fall of 30CE.

As others have commented, Jesus birthdate is not recorded in the Bible. The reference to chopping a tree down does not refer to decorating a Christmas tree, but to making an idol. (Jeremiah 10:3-5) I believe we should avoid Christmas like the plague. According to the Christmas Encyclopedia, “The establishment of December 25 evolved not from biblical precedent, but from pagan Roman festivals held at year’s end,” Those festivals included the Saturnalia, in honor of Saturn, god of agriculture, “and the combined festivals of two sun gods, the Roman Sol and the Persian Mithra,” says the same encyclopedia. Both birthdays were celebrated on December 25, the winter solstice according to the Julian calendar.(quote from g12/10)
I believe true Christians will heed the Bible's warnings about mixing true religion with false, such as at 2 Corinthians 6:14,15)

It does not matter when he was born
Most of us celebrate his birth on 25th dec.

Much like Saints days can be chosen for many reasons.

Though, how much is this actually mixing in Paganism with Christianity? There are no pagan traces in Christmas; even the Christmas tree with lights was introduced by Martin Luther as a symbol of God's light shining in the world, a reminder of the Tree of Life which is the Cross of Christ, and of the Burning Bush, where Moses came face to face with God.

Simply put, does the use of a particular day for a purely Christian celebration constitute mixing paganism and Christianity? I think not.

Not your average Mormon
Mormons believe He was born in the springtime. We believe this was revealed to a modern-day prophet. We celebrate Christmas on December 25, though.

1: Santa Claus is a corrupted version of St. Nicholas, Bishop of Myra in Lycaea. The jolly fat man in red and flying a sleigh with reindeer has nothing to do with St. Nicholas, OR the Christian holiday of Christmas.

2: Yuletide likewise has nothing to do with the Christian holiday of Christmas.

3: LOL, taking the name of a type of tree and the name of a person (St. Nicholas->German Sanct Nikolaus->German nickname Sanct Klaus->English Santa Claus) and trying to prove that it has Satanic origins! :biglaugh:

4: The fact that Santa Claus is typically depicted wearing red means Santa is Satanic? Oh, brother. I guess you're going to say next that Christ's red blood on the Cross means that Jesus is Satanic too, right?
