Christians outlaw halloween in parish because it falls on THEIR holy day

Smoke

Done here.
Hey Smoke, don't blow a gasket. This whole thread is about goverment restrictions on what is and isn't 'politically correct', whether its rednecks banning Halloween or the ACLU getting Christmas banned. I'm not complaining about it near as much as your over-reaction. The real point is that kids enjoy Halloween and Christmas and all the other 'holidays' - which is actually the words 'holy days'.
I'm not blowing a gasket. I just think it's amazing that we hear the same mindless tripe every year -- and it seems as though it's coming earlier and earlier in the year, like the shopping season. And the ACLU has never got Christmas banned anywhere. What an absurd thing to say.

Yes Smoke, I worked as an instructor, not teacher, for a school district and we were instructed to not use the word 'Christmas' around students.
That's good. Your job was to instruct, not to promote Christian holidays.

Christmas was originally a pagen holiday to celebrate the winter soltase, the Sun begins rising higher in the sky from that time forward. A rebirth and begining of a new cycle of seasons. Christians took it over and got their own son to be born on that day. There is no evidence to support that Jesus was born at this time of year, lots of folks think he was born in the spring.
Again -- where's the pagan holiday? The ******* solstice is pagan? If Christmas was moved to December 25 to displace a pagan holiday, it's mighty strange that nobody anywhere ever commented on that until the 18th century.

Now, you want to talk about pagan influences in Christianity, let's talk about the holy wells of Ireland. But this stuff about Christmas being timed to coincide with a pagan festival is completely unsubstantiated puritanical claptrap.

Please don't assume that I'm Christian just because I believe in something that I call God for lack of a better word.
I was addressing what you said, not you personally. Did you notice I said "these people" not "you"? :)
