closer to nature than God

I was never raised in church or with the bible, but now that I have children of my own I feel the need to have the bible taught to them so they don't feel the confusion inside like I do.
I feel much closer to nature than God's word, or His son. I have a hard time believing that the bible is all truth, and I feel it;s traslated out of context. I do believe that a great man walked this earth and tried to teach man a better, kinder way to live. I feel more confortable in my back yard admiring God's handy work if you will, and being kind to the earth. It feels much better to me than being in a building where the sun doesn't shine in listening to someone try and interpret the bible for me. It just makes me think too much.

Hi sblack!

What a coincidence! - you could be describing me in your intro! virtually your entire way of seeing things is so close to mine - except that I let my sons decide what they wanted to find out about religion.........

Welcome to Religious Forums!

I hope you soon feel at home with us, and look forward to seeing you around.:)

The great thing is that you do NOT have to believe that the Bible is all factual, innerant truth. I think it has been shown beyond a shadow of doubt that the Bible is not perfect if we are looking for a literal interpretation thereof. Jesus taught a lot in hyperbole (exaggeration) just to make a point. Jesus' teaching boils down to loving God and loving our neighbor and who among us can find fault with that. Jesus never taught us to believe in many things, he never asked us to base our love for other people upon their race, creed, color, national origin or sexual orientation. Jesus was often found among those most abhorred by "everyone else", sinners, tax collectors, prostitutes and adulterers. If he was here today there is no doubt in my mind he would be hanging out with AIDS patients, the homeless, the drug addicts, those unloved, lonely souls that surround us every day. He broke bread and shared wine with these people.

When he "fed the 5,000 with the couple of fish and barley loaves" (John 6.5-6.13) - I do not look at this "miracle" and question whether or not it happened (for I doubt that it happened exactly as written in the bible) but it is of no consequence to me. I see that he had the people to sit down in small groups. Go ahead everyone take a load off and eat! He did not congregate the Catholics, Baptists, Muslims, Jews, etc. He shared openly and freely with all with NO BIAS whatsoever. He never asked everyone to agree 100% with him, he FED them! I feel that there may be a lesson there for us all so the "miracle" is insignificant to me.

Of course, I struggle sometimes with the exact same issues, trying reconcile my faith with what I can and cannot believe actually happened...

In Hebrew the numerical value of the word nature is also equal to God.
The word tsunami relates to God = churches remained = western ideology doesn’t accept this, most cultures were well aware if God is angry =(alarmed, concerned = logically and never malice), things like this happen.

Also to finish something Yeshua started and not finished =
5th commandment “as God gave you the land” =
One father = God = Male and female in one.
one mother = Earth or all matter also = As a mother does to children, before birth.

welcome, sblack. i really lliked this:

I feel more confortable in my back yard admiring God's handy work if you will, and being kind to the earth. It feels much better to me than being in a building where the sun doesn't shine in listening to someone try and interpret the bible for me.

i definately feel the same at times. :flower2: and like Jamaesi beautifully said, God is everywhere.

Welcome to the forums. I know what you mean. Being brought up in a none active supposedly christian (to the extent they believe in God) family and not going to church. The only teachings I had of religion was from school, which was slightly tedious! Its only when I walk into a church, or sea the clouds below me in a plane with the sun shining on them, or the nature of trees etc etc that I really feel there must be an all poweful being to create this (God)!!! :)
