Je pense, donc je suis.
What can I really know -- what can I be absolutely certain of? Apparently, not much. Does the world exist? Is anything in it "real," and if so is it real as it appears or real in some other way?
Descartes was trying to answer that question. And the answer he finally came down to is this:
"There is one thing that I think I can know with absolute certainty -- and that is that there is a mind thinking this thought, at this time."
Oddly, it is the only statement, made in his "Method of Doubt," to survive his methodic doubt.
