College woes and aggravating people

Jaymes

The cake is a lie
ARGH! That is about the only word I can use right now to describe how I feel. I don't know if it's because today is Monday or what, but I'm ready to bash some heads.

My ACT scores should have gotten to the college I requested them to be sent to well over two weeks ago. I gave them a few extra days since the last time I called them, since the ACT site says that colleges can be slow in processing them. When I called them up today they said they still hadn't recieved my scores, inducing a 'what the heck' moment. So, I decided to call the ACT people to work out what the heck was wrong.

Conversation went something like this:

Me: My scores still aren't at [college]. Why not?
ACT: They should be there, get the college to call us.

So, I call up the college. Conversation went (frustratingly) like this:

Me: ACT wants you to call them so that they can work something out, since they know they've sent them.
Annoying woman who has no business working as someone that answers the phone: No, it's not my concern. I didn't request the scores, you did.
Me: It's not going to do any good for me to just call back and forth, you need to get in touch with each other.
AWWHNBWASTATP: No, not calling them, ad nauseum.

So I hang up, pitch a brief hissy fit, and call the ACT back, and talk to someone who is willing to call them up and work something out.

Gotta be something about it being a Monday. :banghead3

Welcome to the frustrations of the adult world, Jensa, dear! As a general rule, a good chunk of the rest of your life will be spent dealing with idiots and snafus. Then you die and go to heaven where another group of clerks arbitrarily holds up your admittance papers because St. Peter forgot to sign off on them. Finally, you're admitted to heaven only to find out that you don't have a sufficient credit record to take out a loan with which to purchase your harp. Cheer up! It sounds like you handled this snafu with the ACT scores with admirable competence.

Nooo, I wanna go back to being a kid again. :( All I'd have to worry about then is what my mom packed for lunch and how long it was until summer...

That sucks. But that's not half as bad as the medical insurance people who my mom always has to call to straighten things up with. Those people obviously buy into that "equal opportunity employment" thing and hire mentally handicapped people to answer phones. It can be frustrating. The best thing to do is to take notes when talking (so you can remember exactly what stupid things they're saying) and get their name. Then, you can talk to somebody who actually knows what they're doing, and say "so-and-so said such-and-such a thing," and they won't think you're making it up (as opposed to saying, "some guy said this thing that I don't exactly remember). That's a nifty thing to do.

Hi Jensa
When talking to official type bodies always start by asking:
who you are speaking to and their extension number.
Then ask if they are the right person to speak to for your query.
Then tell them the call is being recorded for security and training purposes.
Only then ask your question.
You usually then start to get their attention.
