I think one of the reasons the divorce rate is so high is that there's too much emphasis put on the wedding, and once that's over and done with no-one knows how to work the marriage. People don't know how to compromise. You have people saying things like,'well, I'll put a stop to that after the wedding.' Then there are the people who seem to think a marriage certificate means you mystically become some sort of single entity. A wedding doesn't make a commitment if there isn't already one there.
My partner and I have been together for 11 years. We have 3 children, 2 dogs, a cat, a car a house and a business. We don't have a piece of paper, because quite frankly there has always been something better to spend the money on than a wedding. Do we plan to get married? Yes, when there's nothing better to spend the money on.
Tell me we don't have as much of or more of a commitment than someone who thinks a wedding is so important it requires a $10,000 bank loan, and I'll dispute that for all I'm worth.
