I read parts of the book when it came out in German. A magazine or newspaper I read at the time reprinted it.

Speaking of nothing changing, I watched the video and immediately thought of Zelinsky's campaign promises and how he did a 180 after winning the election. The video seems to explain that in a matter of fact way.

Career crim politicians lie before an election but sometimes you have people who seriously mean what they promise and get elected. But once in office they get "convinced" by forces they didn't even know before.
