Confused about Sikh 5 K's

What exactly are the 5 K's and do you have to adhere to them? Is this just for men (obviously I don't mean the beard)? What do women do?

Gursikh, all Sikhs have 5ks. Amritdharis have vowed to be strict about it. You do not need an army because one sikh is equivalent to 125,000. :)

Popular joke (edited for better effect):
Sikh at the railway counter: "Faujan nu Delhi jana haiga, ticket katto' (The Battalion is going to Delhi, give tickets).
Counter clerk: How many?
Sikh: 125,000.
Counter clerk: Darji, foujan kitthe haigi (Sardarji, where is the battalion)!
Sikh: I am right in front of you, don't you see me?
