Conservative anger over abortion and cannabis results in Ohio.

A Republican vote is a vote for a theocracy. They want biblical law forced on everyone while ignoring the secular founding of America
But only the Bible as they see it while they ignore parts in it that they don't like, such as "judge ye not" and "Let he whom is without guilt cast the first stone" [most Evangelicals support capital punishment] and "Be as wise as serpents but as harmless as doves" as they support going to war and allowing almost unlimited access to guns. Etc.

Good, what is wrong with that? That's a serious act capable of causing serious harm.
I agree.

I pointed that out in response to your post, which said, "What about them? They are necessary and the punishment for violating them is minor and fair. It's not like if you speed and get a ticket you won't be allowed to work or go outside."

This began as a discussion about Typhoid Mary. Get it now? There are some actions that we can take which pose a risk to others in which society can, does, and should place limitations on those behaviours and actions.

It's never been how tax cuts are given to the rich when they can damn well afford that tax rates before being lowered. Talk about nanny state. The difference is who is being coddled.
Big corporations and rich people get goodies all the time. And now the right is starting to talk about more big tax cuts that will benefit the wealthy while ballooning the deficit once again. To partially pay for this they'll throw the poor and struggling under the bus.

<sarcasm> (for those that miss such things)
After all Jesus said "blessed are the rich and powerful. To them belongs the world".

I'm in favor of capitalism as in many independently competing providers not crony capitalism and oligopoly capitalism.

But yes, I got distracted from the subject.

Dems also won both houses of the state legislature in VA, and the Dem governor of KY won his reelection bid.

All in all, a good night for liberals. Of course the conservative gadflies are unhappy.
And where the dems did lose they ran out of ballots in some majority black districts. In Alabama, I believe.

Right but those actions must be fair and balanced, not something like "theres a slight chance you might get in a car crash, therefore you are not allowed to work or leave your home."

So your ideal is to go back to before 1855 - Massachusetts is the first state to require that children have a smallpox vaccine before going to school to prevent the spread of smallpox in schools. Timeline of Vaccination Mandates
I'm sure the intentional and willful complete destruction of people's jobs and businesses were included in the enforcement of that mandate.

Oh, you undoubtedly heard the basis of that from Trump as he has very much a neo-fascist mementality.
I'm sure it's only an issue when it affects only one side of the aisle , without having any consideration that essentially the same thing is happening to others who don't share the same ideology and viewpoints.

What are your thoughts on speed limits, stop signs, and traffic lights? Tyranny of the nanny state?
Yes. I'm sure the institution of such has resulted in unprecedented loss of jobs and destruction of businesses, created supply chain nightmares resulting in massive runaway inflation and the nightmares associated with just trying to stay above water.

Now? Republicans have long opposed cannabis and abortion, as well as rebuking the democratic process when the will of the people doesn't align with their agenda.
Opposition to abortion.
Opposition to vaccination.
Opposition to gay marriage.
Opposition to contraception.
Opposition to property rights.
Opposition to religious liberty.
Opposition to miscarriage care.
Opposition to inter-racial marriage.
Opposition to criminal justice reform.
Opposition to 1st Amendment rights.
Opposition to 4th Amendment rights.
Opposition to honoring election results.

The will of the people & the Constitution
seem subordinate to Christian Nationalism.
Such opposition is bad for the economy.
