The song is literally the theme song of a show that glorifies wanker cops and makes sport and entertainment of a lot of people who appear ill and in need of help.
It's not saying anything about reform or anything bad about the cops.

I'm fairly sure his comments are tongue in cheek. ;)

This is a story with a happy ending.
This detective is clearly unsuited to be a cop.
But his actions result in his firing & being charged.
Praise ubiquitous cel phones!

Many cops treat using profanity as a crime.
Yet in the process of arresting people for it, they
use profanity. Should these cops be arrested too.
Never happens because they're above the law.
This guy's crime wasn't really playing the guitar,
it was for standing up to the pig. (A corrupt prosecutor
pursued the charges.) The cop sounds like an ignorant
fool on the stand when the judge questions him.
The judge was skeptical of the cop's vapid claims.
Mr Music wins on appeal, ie, swearing at cops is
protected speech.

To be fair, it wouldn’t be the first time that a protest (possibly leftist) song was co-opted and/or misunderstood by the very establishment it originally criticised.

I’m forcibly reminded of all the times I’ve seen Orwell quotes co-opted by the very authoritarian movements he literally wrote against.
(And no, I’m not talking about “commies.”)

Cop forces his way into a home with no warrant.
He complains that her dogs are getting loose.
(Complainant is a friend of the police chief.)
Yet he leaves the door open so the dog escapes.
He threatens to arrest her for interrupting him.
She leaves to try to get the dog he let out.
So he handcuffs, arrests, & chokes her.
He then lies to his supervisor about the interaction,
& files a report with false accusations of felonies,
trying to frame for crimes she didn't commit.

No investigation of the cop, & no prosecution.
Fortunately, the civil trial court denied this brutal
stupid cop qualified immunity. Taxpayers paid
$350,000 for this cop's malevolence.

Word to the wise. If cops show up at your door,
close & lock it. Don't open it unless they show
you a warrant. Do not simply accept their word
that they have one because they're legally allowed
to lie about this. Always record interactions.

Sheriff retaliates against civilians he dislikes
by refusing to tell them where there towed
car is. They finally get their car, but the cops
arrange for them to be fired from their jobs.
To protect & serve?
Nah.
To prey & abuse.

It's a case of uninformed civilians are abused
by uninformed angry cops. Both parties got
an F for their behavior.
Civilians have a right to be ignorant of the law,
but it's inexcusable for cops to be both ignorant
& abusive by escalating encounters.

Angry cop is ready to kill a family over a speeding violation.
Why on Earth are such twitchy thugs given a license to kill?

A kid plays ding dong ditch game.
Unfortunately, they did it at a cop's house.
Cop has over 2 dozen cop buddies chase them
down. While cuffed, he viciously beats one, &
does the usual knee on the neck move to prevent
breathing. The kid is now slowly recovering from
8 hours in surgery.
Interesting part...
This cop has been on the job for 7 years.
In this case he tried to turn off his body cam,
but it recorded anyway. How many times
was he successful hiding his illegal assaults?
How many other times has he arrested someone
in their home without a warrant. This looks like
it's part of a pattern of Delaware cops because
all cops participated....not one attempted to
intervene in the illegal beating.

The dangerously violent cop above can't
even correctly identify the kid he attacked.
He got the wrong one. Delaware cops are
clearly all corrupt, & pose a danger to the
public.

Cop pulls over Calvin Riley driver for a valid traffic
violation.
She saw a small sealed bottle of vodka, grabbed it,
broke the seal, opened it, poured it out, put the cap
back on, & tossed onto the car seat as evidence.
She claimed she smelled alcohol & weed.
Cops charge him with DUI.
Problem: Her body cam which shows her opening
the sealed bottle. When strategizing with other cops,
they all turn off their body cams, but not before she
admits she didn't really smell alcohol.
The driver is still being prosecuted for DUI, based
upon the open container. (This is Florida, ya know.)
The cop is not being prosecuted.

The driver has filed suit.
Taxpayers will take it up the yazoo.
This cop should be imprisoned for many years for
planting evidence. The other cops should be fired.

For those interested....

I like to refer to cops as low IQ bullies with badges.
The departments are run like fraternities

Here's three stories of bullies with a badge, though fortunately they were punished.
First is a kid a cop wrongly accused of drinking and driving, and then after all that failed a sudden charge of having used pot was thrown at him.
Second is cops who invaded a home, one who even threatened to throw a kid on his face for trying to enter his own legal residence.
Third is a disabled man wrongly accused of shoplifting.
Never trust the police and only cooperate as much as law requires you to.

Riots are typically easy for most people to view
as something "those people" do. What they
need is to understand that cop corruption can
affect them too. This is taking time.
Patience, grasshopper.

Sorry, I haven't had a chance to go over all the posts here and the big glaring question that comes to my mind is: What do we want? Sure, everyone doesn't want bad cops. I really don't want bad doctors and bad teachers and bad plumbers too, but just what is it that we want here? Do we want no cops? Bad Idea. Do we want better cops? Sure but how?

I've covered it extensively in other threads.
In short....
- Better vetting of cops.
- Higher standards for cops.
- Far far better training of cops
- More accountability for cops.
- Higher pay for fewer cops.
- Hiring mental health professionals to
handle situations inappropriate for cops.
- Make it a criminal offense to turn off body cams.
- Make it a criminal offense for cops to make false claims.
- Make it a criminal offense to violate any law that
a civilian would be prosecuted for, eg, assault, robbery.

The last couple might seem redundant.
They're not. De facto is not de juro.

Huh. What I'm curious of is what you're doing to bring this about --besides arguing for it on this forum?

Arguing on this forum is my plan.
(Think of it as awareness raising,
which might could possibly spread.)
I blather about elsewhere too.

Well it appears to be more than you might be doing?
One small way is to vote for candidates
who are strong on civil liberties. Problem
is that Dems & Pubs are seldom that way.
Biden, the architect of civil forfeiture, is
terrible. Trump is worse.
I'm voting Libertarian this year.
