COVID-19 WAS created by Chinese scientists

I see allegations, but no actual evidence in this article, and all of the links are dead/link back to dailymail.

The doctor claims "prima facie" evidence.

We should note that such "gain of function" is useful
for research purposes. So even if China created this
bug, it wouldn't necessarily be for nefarious purposes.
Moreover, even if used as a weapon in another country,
it would've still found its way to China, damaging their
economy too. Evil intent seems unlikely...in this case.

On the other hand, China would have been well aware of the fact that their mode of government would put them in the position of being able to deal with the pandemic much more effectively than most of their rivals.

*Edit: to whatever extent we can believe the reporting /statistics:

Deaths/covid/US
610,302

Deaths/covid/India
335,114

Deaths/covid/China
4,636

COVID Live Update: 171,827,279 Cases and 3,573,727 Deaths from the Coronavirus - Worldometer

No definite answers but the question is being taken seriously in reputable quarters now:

Covid origin: Why the Wuhan lab-leak theory is being taken seriously

Yeah, it's a definite possibility. There is just no credible evidence at the moment afaik. But China could have tried to cover it up too.

Even if it was an accidental lab leak, that doesn't change the fact that it happened. And I don't see sanctions or reprimand as being in any way effectual, even if it is the case. So the question becomes even if it was an accidental lab leak, then what?

That's the risk with studying these things. We have labs in the US that study these things as well.

If something like this occured and the US released something akin to Covid, how should the international community react towards us?

I don't know if anybody's proposing sanctions, reprimands, etc.

Metaphorically speaking the trial hasn't begun yet, just the investigation, so it's a little too early to talk about handing out sentences. Have to figure out what the crime was and/or if there was one first.

True, I've just noticed a trend of "let's blame/punish China" when the lab leak theory is discussed, and as you said, without all the facts it's a little fruitless. That's why I brought it up as I did.

I speculate that it was an unintentional leak from "gain of function" activities. Chinas economy suffered as well considering that they make a lot of the worlds stuff!

I considered that.
But it cost them much nonetheless.
It inspires our leaders to source strategic materials
& products domestically instead of from them. And
they don't appear to have taken advantage of their
relatively better coping.

An argument could be made that we were headed in that direction anyway.

How so? Aside from their dramatically lower mortality rate, there's this:

China could have objectively looked at a dismal outcome based on the evidence but because they are Chine they would still believe they'd come out ahead. Undoubtedly Japan probably thought they'd be handling it much better than rest of of the world.
And with China, it's very likely they (and others) lied.

Not too different from how a lot of Americans think America handled it great, really. Framed around an entirely different mindset, but the it's same blind nationalism.
I'll believe that when the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. When the seas go dry and the mountains blow in the wind like leaves.

China just doesn't appear to have enacted a comprehensive
plan. And its claims of "back to normal" are dubious.

It's really so pathetically hilarious that so many now condemn Fauci but still willingly believe Trump. Both have made some mistakes not doubt, but Fauci admits this but Trump certainly doesn't.

BTW, some virologists that I have read in Scientific American say that this covid virus is natural, thus there's no evidence that it was genetically spliced together, but that doesn't answer whether it could have escaped the lab in Wuhan or whether it originated in a wet market or is from some other source?

IOW, stay tuned.

One thing that is a world of diffeerence between Fauci and Trump is Trump does everything for himself. When he lies and deceives, it is for his own gains. When he said no mask it was to keep his supporters saying his name. When Fauci told us no masks early on it was to help inflate the margin of access to masks healthcare workers had before running out.

Given the heinous conditions of some wet markets (like, having different animals from all over the world being within "stuffed tight" proximity of each other), and the history of new viruses coming from them my money is on the wet markets. They have their purpose and are necessary, but some aspects of them really need cleaned up.
