Criminal tendencies or old age?

Seems I walked out of a store (supermarket) without paying.

Self-service check-outs and where my mind apparently was on catching a bus (every hour). I bought a bottle of wine (with other things) so had to have someone enter a code as being over age, after which I subsequently seemed to have forgotten the rest of the process - like paying. The wine - a bottle of Most Wanted Pinot Grigio. Perhaps there will be a summons in the post although the security guards were quite polite and required no 'resistance is futile' remarks. Probably one of the first such signs of absent-mindedness for me. :(

The security guards were polite as in they stopped you and had you go back into the building to pay for the product?

I did that once when I was 20 at the gas pump.

I was a regular customer. I went back when I realized what happened.

THey said they hadn't called the cops, because they assumed I just forgot. I paid them, and they had no problem with me.

First of all ... GREAT TITLE!

Secondly, as someone getting on in years, I recognize how easy it is to get distracted and short-circuit "the system". But my attitude is that we humans ought be building systems to accommodate who and what we are. Including our foibles. And not building systems that demand we be something other than what we are (perfect).

So screw 'em. :)

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Well, Kroger charged me for someone else's cherry pie one time so I guess that's even enough. Unless it was a really expensive bottle of wine!

Of course - me joking there. At that stage I hadn't realised what I had done, and thought that there was an issue with my card being presented. It seems that I didn't even present my card to the machine - as CCTV would no doubt show. o_O

Nah, I can't really afford the expensive stuff, apart from special occasions (like when Trump isn't elected, for example ), and I just try the occasional ones I haven't already tried - mostly just dry white wines for me, and hence tending to go on the alcohol content if not labelled as dry.

I bailed on paying for an expensive dinner in Vegas once because Mrs. Wirey was puking on the table. They seemed happy to get rid of me, frankly.

There was 44 C heat and free wine involved. That's about 111 F for you Yanks.

P.S. I caught the bus, only because there was an issue that day and where normally it is on time. :D

I did the same thing at the local petrol station, filled up and drove off. They told me next time I went in and I fixed it up. Not sure if it was old age or my mind was elsewhere.

Happened to me as well, and I used to go back to pay so as not to rob the store-owner.

The issue is that I was unconsciously lost in my thoughts and not aware. It was a lesson for me not to get dominated by my thought process and to practice more meditation or mindfulness.

I'm hoping it is just old age. My mum once cooked a dinner, popped it in the oven to keep it warm but then proceeded to cook another meal shortly afterwards. She subsequently had several years of dementia before dying in a nursing home.
