Actress and singer Debbie Reynolds died Wednesday, one day after the death of her daughter, "Star Wars" actress Carrie Fisher, her son said.

"She's gone to be with Carrie," Todd Fisher said. "She loved taking care of her and now she's gone to be with her."

Reynolds' death at 84 comes after she was rushed to a hospital from a Beverly Hills home at around 1 p.m., law enforcement officials said.

Reynolds, 84, catapulted to fame after her first leading role in 1952 at age 19, playing Kathy Selden in "Singin' in the Rain," starring alongside veterans Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor.

"She sang the most cheerful song in film history," James Lipton, host of "Inside the Actors Studio," said on MSNBC's "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell," referring to the song "Good Morning" featured in the hit musical.

.....SINGIN' IN THE RAIN
BEST MOVIE MUSICAL EVER

"And she held her own, she was just 19 I believe at that time, with Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor — can you imagine being thrust into that?" Lipton said.

Born April 1, 1932, Reynolds appeared in beauty pageants before making her debut her film debut in 1950 in the musical "The Daughter of Rosie O'Grady."

The actress starred in the "The Debbie Reynolds Show," a short-lived sitcom on NBC during the late 1960s.

Reynolds then turned her attention to the stage, performing on Broadway and in Las Vegas over the next 20 years.

She continued to appear in films throughout the 1990s. In all, the actress appeared in dozens of films, television shows and stage productions and has been nominated for multiple Golden Globes and Academy and Emmy Awards.

May she rest in peace.

I wonder if people/the media would care as she is not a celebrity like her daughter :(
In her day, the 50s and 60s, she was a far bigger celebrity than her daughter. She not only made a pile of movies, see HERE, but was married to Eddy Fisher, and continued her career into TV.

Yeah. I suspect it will be a mostly older crowd mourning her death than us youngins.' Sad, though, because she was talented and performed with the best.
Such a sad and wicked year this has been. :(

Thanks for this post. Most on this forum probably are not as old as we (I?) and so will not have the same connection with these actors/dancers. Already planned is a Friday night Debbie Reynolds movie binge including "Singing In The Rain".

I'm old enough to remember her in her prime. Her work is her memorial and a great memorial it is.
