Defending Faith

At youth group the other day we were asked a few questions about my religion, others' religions, and what not. First of all, I'm not a very good debator because i don't like to argue with people unless I absolutely have to. Well, I was starting to get irratated because people didn't know what they were talking about, and I was frustrated because they didn't know about other religions but they thought they did, yea, you know how that goes. Well, finally I stood up and walked over to the chalkboard and whipped everything out as clear as glass, talked for about 7 or 8 minutes and then everyone just sat there and looked at me in amazment. It was so cool! Not only was I defending my faith, but others as well. Not only have I learned a lot from all of you, but I have done hours of research just because I'm curious about things. It was an awesome feeling.:jiggy: I felt like dancing. So, I did!:D

Mostly I wanted to tell everyone this, butalso i was wondering if anyone had any similar stories that they would like to share.:)

*mods, please move if need be.:)

Good for you, SK2005! Thanks for sharing that. :) That's another great thing about this forum...not only does it educate and increase understanding for those who post here, but it indirectly spreads understanding about all religions when people like you share their knowledge with others.

I've found, unfortunately, that most people simply do not know what they are talking about when it comes to religion and philosophy. Heck, most people don't even know much about their own religion, much less that of others. In my opinion, all those people should come to religiousforums and learn something, like the rest of us have. :)

That's great that you were talking about other faiths and were able to use this resource to add to your knowledge. When I was in youth group at our church a few years ago;), we were talking about other religions, and a few of us had blank looks on our faces at the mention of several. In the interest of education, we loaded up the church bus and actually attended services of other faiths: Greek Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Conservative Jewish, Hare Krishna, Islam, and Protestant faiths different from our own, Unitarian Universalist, and maybe a couple more that escape my memory.

We talked about the rituals we observed at the services and the messages of faith we witnessed. A few people looked at us like 'who are these strangers in our church?, while most greeted us at least cordially.

We had to leave our shoes on the back porch at the Hare Krishna service, and when we left 4 hours later, our shoes were filled with 2 inches of snow! Considering that's more than our average annual snowfall, it made the day even more memorable.:D

I think it's great that you are exploring other faiths. Hopefully what you learn will strengthen your own.

WOOHOOO. Nice going my Catholic brethren. Isn't it a great feeling when you put someone in their place on the subject of religion.

I'm glad that you guys liked that story! I love it too.....;)
The faiths that I was attending were mostly Christian denominations. As for people who were there, just mostly high school kids a few adults and I felt like I took the place of our preist because I was busting out everything. :)
I love your story CaptainXeroid. I do that kind of stuff on my own, I love going to other churches, and that is another reason why I love this place and all of you!
