Well, the dictionary defines words according to popular and technical usage. The dictionary isn't there to reveal the Platonic essence of "female-ness."

If we started calling doors, "jobs," Merriam Webster would eventually list "an entryway into a house or building" as a definition of "job." Simple as that.
