The article has since been amended because the author has no real authority and apparently is not an actual expert in the field.

Who told you this is seven year-old assortment of articles, short essays, and an interview is a peer-reviewed paper?
.

The OP chose a bunch of articles and reviews about human-trafficking, and because some victims are forced in to sex-trade and porn she wants to end porn.

Where I live many victims have been forced to work in agriculture in 'picking harvests' that technology cannot yet handle. But she doesn't want to end all agriculture.

We also have a problem here with human-trafficking victims being forced in to car-wash teams where they slave for many hours for below subsistence rewards. Does @InChrist want to end car-washing?

It begins to look like cherry-picked hypocrisy.

@InChrist , it's best to seek to end female-subjugation where it really exists in large numbers. There are many web-reports like the one below.
You need to copy the link and paste it in to google to connect it.

The Church and the Abuse of Women | CBE International

Thus many researchers in the area of wife abuse are extremely critical of the Christian church for its emphasis upon the subjection of women to men.

Porn is a bit like alcohol (see below) - some can enjoy without becoming addicted or it affecting their lives too much, for others, they will be glad to see the back of it after not being able to control their usage. There appears to be evidence both for the benefits and for the harm it can cause.

New study: Porn activates the same addiction centers in the brain as alcohol and heroin

I can control my alcohol use (mostly always have), and probably had an addiction to porn once, but now don't use it or miss it. But that is just one individual's experience. Overall, I'm not an enthusiast of the porn culture we seem to inhabit these days.

Surely it's quite obvious to those who aren't overly habituated that porn is unhealthy and exploitative. It evidently habituates people to sex as the be-all of inter-gender relationships. Men get used to sexualising women, women get used to being objects of consumption. Especially when people are watching it from a young age, that then goes into what expectations people make about sex and how it looks and works - loads of teenage boys think that the stuff they see in porn is how it actually work, and that's what they should be doing with girls. And plenty of the time girls don't know any better either, or feel pressured. It causes plenty of damage to individuals and to society.

Go ahead and read this peer-reviewed research paper on the subject of pornography and sex trafficking. If you don't bother to read the entire paper then don't bother to discuss the subject with me further.
Porn & Trafficking Research Article.pdf
I would be surprised if pornography and illegal sex trafficking were not linked. There are Laws in economics "supply creates demand" and "demand creates supply". We know this in drugs, addiction, medicines, commercials ... what not

Not a big leap for me to see criminal activity linked to pornography. Especially considering the fact that not all humans have high moral standards. Maybe it's not 50% criminal linked. But even if there is 5% sex trafficking it's worth to help the victims IMO.

But don't touch someone's food, they might get mad:D

A tacky music video does not prove women love porn. Most women in the porn industry are trapped there out of financial desperation and they are being exploited.

Woman here, porn is good, i learned a lot from porn that should have been available as adult education

Most women in the porn industry make 2 to 4 times more than the men. They freely engage, are selective about who they have sex with and what acts are performed.

I started to get ticked off at myself in the past that an arousal switch would trigger on in me and I’d go take care of it like some manipulated moron with no self-control. So I did a personal experiment to see if I can learn to control it or subdue those arousals. I’d watch or view and let it burn inside and resist. Eventually that arousal trigger subsided and gained complete control over it. Was one of the greatest things and benefits for me personally, as an individual.

All porn is essentially fantasy. Provided that people, from a young age, are given frank talks about the expectations of sexual relationships vs the fantasy provided by pornography, then the should be fine. The way it looks to me, porn is merely a symptom. But the actual root cause is prudishness and failing to teach kids what sexuality truly looks like. Instead of banning porn and making it harder for workers to advocate for worker rights in the appropriate channels, I say, teach kids about sex. In depth, frankly and freely. A much more productive solution imo.
I mean no one reads the Odyssey and thinks to themselves, "hmm,I guess as a man I should chastise my wife for being faithful for over 20 years and slaughter the suitors pining for her."
Because we know it's fantasy from the get-go, even though that was the norm for Homer's time. Presumably.
Teach people to discern fiction from reality and unless they have mental health issues associated with not being able to distinguish the two or have addictive personalities, then they should be fine.

I've never taken recreational drugs or smoked (only a few as a youth) so I can't comment on these possible addictions, but as I said, I haven't had much of a problem with alcohol - being more a social enhancer - but have had an issue with porn. I also have had an addiction to anxiety medication - for several years when it should at most have been months. In both cases - porn and medication - I managed to eliminate them, and in both cases found I didn't need them. The drugs were in fact doing me more harm than having any benefit - I gradually reduced the dosage without the doctor being involved - which was possibly stupid of me since I believe I suffered a seizure after trying to reduce them too quickly. That was dismissed by the doctor, but having mains voltage applied to your brain is not a common occurrence - which is what it felt like. As for the porn, that was more abrupt, and just dealing with the loss didn't seem that difficult once I discovered that there were more valuable things to do with my life. One of the issues with porn as I see it is the escalation that often occurs - that one seeks more stimulating material as one becomes acclimatised - and that is often not healthy.

Sex education is still not adequate in many countries - and often allied to religious conservatism - so that could certainly be improved. As for the fantasy aspect - well perhaps some fantasies should not be indulged since they might lead to unwelcome pursuits. Teen material on many adult websites is very popular - often being top in some categories - and we have enough of a problem with underage material without encouraging any to delve into this morass when they become blasé to teen material.

I agree. Let us make sex education better.
Now see, I’m versed somewhat in the “canon” so I could just as easily point to the Libertine movement.
Existed during the 1700s, they were a hedonistic movement heavily involved in BDSM practices. We literally survived for centuries afterwards.
Like you want to talk to me about so called immoral degrading media. Let’s go. I have a goldmine in the form of what we call now “classical literature.”
People have and always will seek out sex in entertainment. Often very unrealistic portrayals. You know, that whole fantasy thing?
To treat this revelation as something new belies an ignorance of human history. So let us attack the true villain. Lack of education. Let us make it robust and befitting a modern society, which we like to pretend we live in

Like, what you're saying makes sense, except that I think it's easy to underestimate how much deep watching and producing porn gets into a person's mental programming! Especially a teenager's.

Sure, more education about sex is needed, and sure the fact that people watch porn is a symptom of issues of misogyny and gender binarist thinking and so on, but it is also a massive reinforcer of biases, misconceptions and faulty expectations inandofitself.

Many species of infective bacteria produce a sludge around themselves which protects them from the defensive systems of their host. It's all very well to say 'The sludge is harmless, it's the bacteria we need to get rid of!' when actually the sludge, notwithstanding it's being a consequence of bacterial infection which might well be harmless if it was just floating around your body alone, is one of the key means by which the pathogens keep themselves lodged in the body.

Here bacteria are the underlying attitudes, the sludge is porn, and the body is, I guess, society :D

This is true of people in many industries. Why are you focusing on the plight of porn stars as opposed to, say, Amazon warehouse workers or sweat shop labourers?

"That there is a danger of physical violence for performers should hardly be surprising given the content of modern commercial pornography.
Do you think this risk of physical violence is greater or less than the risk to, say, a nurse working in a hospital?

Edit: bonus question. Which do you think would reduce the risk of violence for porn performers:

- stigmatizing porn, driving porn production underground and to countries with poor protection for porn performers, or

- incorporating porn into the mainstream and regulating workplace safety on porn sets like any other workplace?
