Democracy

Of course. They want Trump as their leader. So be it. Why force them to have Biden? What is this stupidity that ALL people should follow the majority of a voting. Voting is jail. Why 5 people be oppressed by 100 people? Disgusting.

I think let Texas secede and become MAGAland. We can build a wall. puerto Rico can take over the 50th state position. How many FEMA dollars can the USA save by not having to cover the recovery costs of hurricane damage to Texas?

Given that other people didn't want Trump, should we then pit them against the MAGA crowd and see who wins?

A system that uses violence instead of voting is still democratic, majority (or mightier) wins, but with more bloodshed.

OK, so what do we do instead?

One of the problems with Democracy is too many people are programmed to vote based on misinformation, propaganda, and a negativity campaign. There are some who will always vote party line, even with poor leaders being offered. It often comes down to how well leaders and propagandists can manipulate the masses to not think, but feel strongly for their nonsense.

I always thought a more objective populous could do better job in a Democracy, compared to trained animals. One way would be to have an objectivity examine to vote. This exam will be designed to present the best arguments from both sides, in a fair and objective way. Let the best ideas win, instead my side has to win even with the worse ideas.

You can take the test as many times as needed until you demonstrate knowledge and objectivity and can vote with an open mind. This approach would undermine those who benefit by propaganda and misinformation, so it will be resisted by many who prefer repetitive programming and fake news.

Another Democracy idea I thought would work better is for the tax payer to individually decide how their taxes will be spent. At tax time, the IRS will send you two pie charts. The first pie chart will show the current government budget, spread over the pie chart, in the typical proportional way. One can go online if more detail is needed. The second chart is blank. Based on the taxes you need to pay, you fill in your blank chart based on what is important to you, in your view of the country.

For example. if you need to pay $1000 in taxes, you may give $200 to the military, another $200 to medicare and social security. Maybe a $100 on education and science, etc., until you spend all your individual tax share.

The IRS then adds all these pie charts, for all the tax payers, and gives Congress a balanced budget. The first pie chart is there to help people understand existing budget priorities. Most people will fill in their chart close to that. But some of the money will move to help address important issues of today.

The job of Congress is to make it happen with the money given. This is Democracy at its finest, based on a direct connection between the will of the people and the budget priorities of the country; power to the people and the public servants who make it happen.

I'll back out of this debate; I don't do violence

The problem with the US and my country, the UK, is that they are NOT good democracies.
Trump won in 2016 with less votes that Clinton; I'm sure there are examples where the Dems have won similarly
In my country the Tories have a massive majority yet won less than 44% of the vote.

This is not democratic

That is why FOX news and other disinformation sources are a threat to democracy.

Can you offer a way for people to deprogram themselves? They are being fed false stories that makes them feel excited and reinforces their biases.

Anarchy and nihilism.
Anarchy can only exist for about ten minutes. That's how long it takes for the thugs and bully-boys among us to figure out that there is nothing to stop them from raping and pillaging as they please: an opportunity they have been longing for all their lives and will joyfully exploit the moment they are able.

And nihilism is basically what we have, now.

Why win? Why against? That's democratic atrocities. In anarchy, everyone decide for themselves what to do, they don't oppress others with their decisions.
