Developer pulls the plug on Keystone XL oil pipeline

McBell

Unbound
The developer of the Keystone XL pipeline announced Wednesday it is pulling the plug on the controversial project after the Biden administration revoked its permit in January.

TC Energy, the Canadian company behind the project, said it decided to terminate the project after a comprehensive review of its options and consulting with the government of Alberta. The company said it would coordinate with regulators, stakeholders and Indigenous groups to ensure a safe exit from the project.

The cancellation ends more than a decade of controversy over the pipeline and marks a big win for environmentalists who argued the project threatened the environment and would only worsen the climate crisis.

Russia is probably laughing it's *** off by now.
You're right. We should make policies about environmental issues that affect the planet based upon whether or not the bully at school is going to laugh at us. Great life strategy to use as part of important decision making processes.

This is why sensible people vote for reasonable adults to lead us, rather than electing school children still acting emotionally as if they are 12. It's way too easy for the bully to manipulate you when you're driven by an adolescent's ego :).

It was a very unpopular pipeline. Many people were concerned about leaks and what would happen to the pipeline when it became old. I don't know the technical side. I have no idea how the pipeline was to be managed and kept from leaking, but I know that it was quite unpopular and became an issue at the Republican-Democrat party level.

Will this raise the price of fuel for me? I have no idea. Its an obscure topic.

I'd agree with you, were it not for the hard fact that fossil fuels retain a vast competitive and tactical edge over alternative green sources in just about every category.

And that is the only reason to not go green? Money? Short term gains? How does that show responsibility to the world you leave behind?

You do realize that as green becomes commonplace, it will become less expensive? That's how these things work themselves out. And in this case, it has to if we hope to meet the future when it comes. Not much of a choice, actually. My great grandfather had to give up his blacksmithing shop for horse harnesses, once the automobile became the direction the world needed to go. Guess where he ended up? Working for Nash motors. :) Imagine that, money exists in the new technologies too.

The "vast competitive and tactical edge" can be neatly summed up as "make everyone else clean up after us".
