Devin Nunes leaving Congress

I've heard they expect to get 81 million members on that future platform. But doing the math....

Only 70-something million people voted for Trump this last election. And of the select group of Trump supporters interviewed, 60% said they might sign up for the platform.

So an unlikely goal, to me. But they seem to be aiming pretty sky high with their ambitions of this platform.

As for what I think, I won't name names, but there already now exists a Facebook competitor that's pretty right leaning and is already pretty much pulling those numbers. But I'll just sit back and watch though, and see how things turn out, for Trump's social media platform.

It's their right.

Social media is for everyone. It's not owned exclusively for leftists.

Eh? Nobody is challenging the right of investors to put money into any legal venture.

But it is of interest to see how much money is being asked for, to create what on his past form could well be merely a personal Lie Machine for Trump.

You seem awfully concerned what the right is doing.

If not Trump, this probably wouldn't even be on the radar.
But it is Trump.

Why does that matter? Well, it's because Trump is potentially a candidate in the next presidential election, and because he is apparently obsessed with promoting his Big Lie, which seems already to be believed by a dangerously large minority of people in the USA.

So that is why it is of interest to anyone, from Right or Left, who cares about US democracy.

This would probably a downgrade for him career-wise unless he expected not to win in the next election.

Hmm.

He is one of Trump's most ardent acolytes, so it may be for him a good career move. If Trump wins the next election he will have a ringside seat at the castration of of US democracy. If not, he gets a good salary for a few years until Trump's Pravda operation runs into the sand.

Business ventures are always a risk. People invest hoping to profit but there is never a guarantee.

It's called "terms of service/usage agreement," and only snowflakes think they aren't bound to what they agreed to abide by.

You may come to regret that, when Nunes morphs into Trump's Göbbels, after the putsch in 2 years' time......;)

Mind you, he's a bit thick to be a Göbbels figure.
I live in his district, so I won't. He already has his own show so he can spin things as he wants people to hear them.

Nunes is definitely part of trump's greater election fraud and grift. I feel bad for conservative voters who have to deal with these corrupt and anti-democracy figures. Trump's media company that Nunes is going to run is always facing investigation for corruption. Are we surprised?

trump is a manipulative conman and still has a lot of influence over the conservative voter. What trump does in the US political and media arena is going to be important to watch. trump is a very dangerous person. He continues to lie about election fraud. I hope the criminal investigation in Georgia finds him culpable for fraud soon.

He still deserves a voice. A place to openly vent. At least in a free country.

The dilemma is do we allow poorly informed citizens be manipulated by false statements IF it causes harm to the future of democracy? The 1st amendment protects speech. But as we know these rights have limits in the bigger picture when there is harm caused to others.

trump has been allowed the liberties and rights of free speech, and as we all observe he has abused this right. Private companies have recognized the harm he has done and cut off use of their platforms. This is trump's karma. He abused his privileges and was cut off.

If tump wants to start a media company he can do it within the law. As noted this company is being investigated for a merger request. The media company is called Truth. Oddly Russia's national news organization is called Pravda, which means truth in English. That's probably not going to avoid a connection, and be a serious failure of judgment.

Trump's social media deal is being investigated by regulators

Given the failure of Parler I can't see trump having any better approach. I suspect he's going to use it for a platform for disinformation now that his options are gone. trump has already had a failure on an online presence, so I'm not sure how he's going to succeed at this. My guess his interest is just a way to get more money from his devotees, a grift. He's a conman, and those who send him money continue to be his fools.
