that is what I've heard but
I've only actually asked one Muslim that and he said he never heard such a thing.
A nine year old girl is not an adult woman. Definately not. I don't care what culture you belong to or how educated and disciplined she may be.
Could we have this moved to the Religious debates section please?
To address a grown woman as a child is first and foremost very misleading.
In this world any being/creature that reaches the age of puberty/mating is an adult based on biological definitions.
In the past as well as in poorer countries children develop quicker and mature quicker due to their upbringing. In this modern world where those very people who accuse our Prophet of being a pedophile are turning a blind eye to the fact that nowadays grown men who grew up without any kind of responsibilities and just play video games, although an adult by age and appearance, intellectually they are no more than 5 years old.
I was 15 when I finished primary school (it's up to the 8'th grade) that summer many "girls" that finished primary school from all around where I grew up all got married and started a family so too did the "boys". To call them children or immature is wrong on so many levels.
Our Prophet's marriage to Aisha was a revelation. In Islam the dreams of Prophets are a form of revelation. Our Prophet saw in his dream that he married Aisha, however, he did not know who she was or what she looked like. When later he was told to send a proposal to her father asking for permission to marry her he then realized it was the same person as in the dream. That marriage was not based on lust. It was based on love and upon passing down knowledge to someone who later became the greatest female scholar of all times. Everyone was aware of our Prophets actions and teachings in public. But no one had access to his private life as much as a young wife who would memorize and relate the teachings and actions of her husband to a nation of people which now number almost 2 billion. In Islam those who grow up to become scholars and teach Islam to people generally start at a very young age. A 30 year old and beyond is does not have the capacity to learn and memorize things like a child. That's why we send kids to school when they are kids and not when they are 25 or 55.
