To address a grown woman as a child is first and foremost very misleading.

In this world any being/creature that reaches the age of puberty/mating is an adult based on biological definitions.

In the past as well as in poorer countries children develop quicker and mature quicker due to their upbringing. In this modern world where those very people who accuse our Prophet of being a pedophile are turning a blind eye to the fact that nowadays grown men who grew up without any kind of responsibilities and just play video games, although an adult by age and appearance, intellectually they are no more than 5 years old.

I was 15 when I finished primary school (it's up to the 8'th grade) that summer many "girls" that finished primary school from all around where I grew up all got married and started a family so too did the "boys". To call them children or immature is wrong on so many levels.

Our Prophet's marriage to Aisha was a revelation. In Islam the dreams of Prophets are a form of revelation. Our Prophet saw in his dream that he married Aisha, however, he did not know who she was or what she looked like. When later he was told to send a proposal to her father asking for permission to marry her he then realized it was the same person as in the dream. That marriage was not based on lust. It was based on love and upon passing down knowledge to someone who later became the greatest female scholar of all times. Everyone was aware of our Prophets actions and teachings in public. But no one had access to his private life as much as a young wife who would memorize and relate the teachings and actions of her husband to a nation of people which now number almost 2 billion. In Islam those who grow up to become scholars and teach Islam to people generally start at a very young age. A 30 year old and beyond is does not have the capacity to learn and memorize things like a child. That's why we send kids to school when they are kids and not when they are 25 or 55.

By culture of that day,I hope you´re referring to Arab culture.
Because Adam did not have two wives, nor did Abraham.
In fact,Ishmaels mother was Hagar,Abrahams Egyptian concubine.
Sara was his wife, and from her came Isaac.

A nine year old girl is not an adult woman. Definately not. I don't care what culture you belong to or how educated and disciplined she may be.

Could we have this moved to the Religious debates section please?

From what I have gathered, the age was more or less fairly common during those times, and times before, and times after. Pretty much throughout most of history once you reached puberty you were considered an adult. And he didn't make her just another wife, or keep her as a concubine, which has also been fairly common (King David anyone? You can't tell me he could name even half of his wives, let alone the concubines).

I think you mean King Solomon with 1000 wives, I think David only had 4 wives.

Could you clarify your post on one point? Are you saying that Aisha was a woman by the time she was ( around ) 9 years old?

This is a totally indefensible position...your so called logic is so amusing...accept it was and still is wrong and move on. That it did occur irrespective of the reason was wrong. Anyway if she was sucha scholar why did she not write the hadith?..but rather some people hundred of years later?

"Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the Prophet (may the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) married her when she was six years old, and he consummated her in marriage when she was nine years old. Then she remained with him for nine years (i.e. till his death). [2]

Khadijah died three years before the Prophet (the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) departed to Madina. He stayed there for two years or so and then he married Aisha when she was a girl of six years of age, and he consummated that marriage when she was nine years old. [3]

Urwa narrated: The Prophet (may the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) wrote the (marriage contract) with Aisha while she was six years old and consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years. [4]

Aisha (Allah be pleased with her) reported: Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him) married me when I was six years old, and I was admitted to his house when I was nine years old. [5]

Aisha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him) married her when she was seven years old, and she was taken to his house as a bride when she was nine, and her dolls were with her; and when he (the Holy Prophet) died she was eighteen years old. [6]
