Differenecs between Shi'a and Sunni solat?

Hi, I am considering becoming a Shi'a Muslim. I would like to know if there are any differences in the way Shi'a and Sunni pray?

If the prayers are different, Is it permissible for a Shi'a to pray with a Sunni and vice versa?

Yeah there are minor differences in prayers regarding recitations, Shiites also pray on stones called turbah(we place our forehead on it), these stones are made of pressed soil from Karbala. As far as I know there is no objection to us praying with Sunnis as we consider them Muslims.

Prayer rug is not required, but I use it, however forehead and hands are not supposed to be on the prayer rug.
Some use mats made of palm trees, which are said to be authentic to the ones the prophet(SAW) and Imams of Shia used.

Well right but their is major difference in prayers i am Sunni and i saw you people praying too much difference .. Well you can still start the prayer together. but separately perform it.

Shi'a positions in prayer are closer to the Maliki (madhab) positions in prayer. Especially when Maliki's (the common madhab in North-West Africa) do not fold their arms in prayer. The adhan is the same as well between Maliki's and Shi'as and differs from other Sunni madhabs such as Hanafi or Shafi'i.

The only direct difference is the "turbah", the thing shi'a Muslims put in fron of them when they start praying and pray on. I don't know why that is though. Any care to explain? And is it a obligation to use it in prayer? Is without using it according to Shi'a jurisprudence your prayer invalid?

I am Sunni and follow the Hanafi Madhab. On several occasions I have attended a Shi'i masjid in Austin. I had no problem doing so and feel that it is much better to pray in a Shi'i masjid than no masjid. We are all Muslim and should not let the small stuff separate us.

I am probably more inclined to agree with a Shi'a than some followers of the newer Sunni Madhabs which I personally feel are committing bidah.

Yes prayer becomes invalid if we don't use turbah. It's an obligation to use it, as I mentioned before the prophet and the members of ahlbait did not perform their prayers on carpets, but on soil or sand. After the martyrdom of Imam Hussein AS the soil of Karbala was preferred, so these stones are basically pressed soil.

Only the forehead has to be on the turbah, the rest of your body can be on a carpet or sheet or on some type of palm matress.

I agree as well that the only difference is the turbah, I don't know what other differences there is apart from that...

I am interested in reading the scholarly view on this. Could you link me a book or website that is most accepted or reliable.
