Until I'm proven otherwise, Star Wars (REAL Star Wars) died in 1999: in film after Phantom Menace, and in print after
Chewie was killed.

I think Lucas has had questionable handling from the get go. He did make two great series, but he also made some crummy movies. And he royally screwed Indiana Jones.

The most surprising thing in all this for me was that Indiana Jones was part of the deal. I thought Lucas' rights to the franchise were revoked by the Crappy Movie Police after Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls.

Actually I think paramount still holds the rights to that.

"We didn't ascribe any value to the Indiana Jones franchise because of the encumbrances that exist," Iger said, referring to Paramount Pictures' ongoing stake in the series it has distributed.

Depending on how they do it, this could be an amazing new beginning, especially if they choose to make the focus of the new trilogy the Solo twins. Young Jedi Knights could become Disney's Harry Potter.

...that and Darth Caedus is cool stuff. :D

I confess I've been pretty disinterested in everything Star Wars other than the original trilogy and a few well-done video games. I got into the EU at one time, and quickly got annoyed with it. The EU - with a few exceptions - utterly lacks the mythological depth and potency of the original trilogy.

Smart move, Disney could displace the Vatican if they can improve the marketing....:D

‘Jedi’ most popular alternative faith in UK – Census

‘Jedi’ is now the most popular faith in the 'Other Religions' category in England and Wales. Those identifying with the Star Wars creed outnumber atheists, taking seventh place among all the major world religions, the 2011 census revealed.

2011 census
- Census was held on Sunday 27 March 2011.
- It is based on data from 26 million households.
- Census is held every ten years since 1801.
- In England and Wales it is carried out by the Office for National Statistics

The number of Jedi Knights have in fact nearly halved in the last decade, declining from 390,127 followers in 2001 to 176,632 in 2011.

Despite the drop in numbers ,‘Jedi’ still remains the top alternative faith and ranks seventh overall after Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism and Buddhism.

Normally, I find it hard to endure torture scenes, but the slow & grisly death of Jar Jar Binks is appealing.
(We all know that this possibility is why Disney bought the rights, eh?)

I have no problem with it. I basically stopped watching Star Wars after Return of The Jedi.
I've seen the first one easily over a hundred times.

SWTOR is such game.

I agree on some other replies here Star-Wars and even Star-Trek both died out.
