Do people still believe everyone decended from Adam and Eve?

Good. Do you remember what happened to the Ten Commandments when Moses came down from the mountain?

Some people think Moses built the ark of the covenant to hold a second pair of tablets at the command of God. I believe it was also a symbol of faith and God's presence.

Yep, that is what was in the Ark of the Covenant. It is in the Bible. In fact there is only one set of Commandments in the Bible itself, not in a title added later on, that referred to its list as the "Ten Commandments". Do you know what those Commandments were?

Adam and Eve, 6,000 year old Earth.... I had a student who thought so... it was just a side conversation, panicked look in their eye he came to me for support - "right??? right??? I was just silent, not my job to teach that stuff.

How "young"? I have not checked the link yet, but I fear that it is still wrong.

EDIT: Yup, still wrong.

The different translations of days in Genesis is why the age of the earth, based on the Bible, doesn't have a clear answer. But there is a lot of evidence in the Bible supports an old earth.

The Bible Teaches An Old Earth; But A Young Human Race

Basically, proponents of an Old Earth view believe that the earth was created by God—did not evolve—has existed for millions (if not billions) of years—and that the human race is young, having only been in existence for 6,000 years (since 4,004 BC). Dr. Curtis Hutson (1934-1995) and Pastor Harry A. Ironside (1876-1951) believed this and so do I. This is often called the 'Gap Principle' (that is, a time gap between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2).

However, I do not, nor have I ever, believed the bogus fraud of Evolution. Nothing has evolved. Proponents of a Young Earth (i.e., Ken Ham, Henry Morris, Kent Hovind, John Whitcomb) regularly (and very dishonestly) portray Old Earth supporters such as myself as believing Evolution, using legitimate arguments against the lies of Evolution in a wrongful and unscholarly attempt to discredit the legitimacy of an Old Earth. The Bible teaches a very old earth, millions and likely billions of years old.

The fallacy of a Young Earth goes 100% against valid science, which has led many unbelievers to reject the Gospel on the basis of the woeful ignorance of many churches. Consider the following powerful statement by Pastor Max D. Younce...

“Should one desire a continued, concentrated study of the years from the flood to the birth of Christ, they would arrive at approximately 2,345 years. Thus, from Adam to Christ is close to the figure of 4,000 years. Add another 2,000 plus from Christ to the present, and you have man on the earth for only 6,000 years. Therefore, the Gap Principle, as documented in Scripture makes evolution an absolute impossibility. The Gap Principle made it possible for me to lead many people to Jesus Christ as their Savior, who had been influenced by the evolutionary philosophy.” [emphasis added]

I realized recently that the unsaved world laughs at Christians who hold to a Young Earth view, in particular concerning the matter of dinosaurs. It discredits a preacher when he goes against legitimate science, because most people are thinkers and they know bogus teachings when they hear it. It is simply absurd to claim that dinosaurs roamed the earth 4,000 years ago. The Young Earth Creation Movement: Deceiving Their Followers For Over 40 Years!

Why did you bother quoting that ignorant fool? We know that evolution is a fact. We know that man has been here for over two hundred thousand years.

Did you read Exodus 34 yet?

Many Christian people believe the earth is old. There are different interpretations of what day in Genesis means. The Bible Teaches An Old Earth; But A Young Human Race

Yes, and there are still a few who believe there was no death until Eve ate the fruit, no dinosaurs, that the earth was a perfect paradise etc. A life for a life - the whole thing isn't real if that perfect life and earth was not the start of it for many.

Haha, I'm just glad I'm not a liberal arts teacher, that would be a really rough job.

I think dinosaurs might have lived with Job. Job, Behemoth, and Dinosaurs

There was no death until Eve ate the fruit has something to do with the Bible verse about the tree of life. The earth being a perfect paradise is related to Genesis 3:18. Thorns and Thistles

If you read your link carefully you will see it is not so. It does at least refer to Exodus 34.

In Exodus 34 you can read how Moses went back up the mountain and God carved or had Moses carve, the Ten Commandments on stone tablets again to replace the ones he broke. See what the last Commandment was.

The last of the Ten Commandments is thou shalt not covet.

I grew up being taught dinosaurs were not real haha. Yes, it was all about the tree of life, a perfect life for a perfect life - as in Adam all die, no death before the garden. An interesting mythology. In musical themes, and "The Hero's Journey" Hero's journey - Wikipedia
the start and the end are the same. The song isn't over until it circles back around to the starting notes... a life isn't over, adventures until the hero comes back home where they were born. Some strange thing - that loyalty and devotion to home, seems to go against evolution and progression - wanting something better than where you start. If you can imagine a perfect start, you can imagine a perfect ending I suppose, is that why it is such a compelling tale?

Evolution is a theory, because there are only a few possible intermediate animals.
You just contradicted yourself and made a false statement. When you admit that evolution is a theory you admit that it has been shown to be correct. And there are endless intermediate animals. We do not lack them.

A theory doesn't mean it's correct. It means giving it the benefit of the doubt while not accepting it.
