Do we need warnings for commercials?

A caller on a local talk show this morning said she'd like to see a warning come on before "racy" commercials, such as before a Victoria's Secrets commercial. She believed this would help protect her kids from such commericals. Should there be a warning before "racy" commercials? What do you think?

There should be warning labels placed on adults like that.

As far as I know they don't put victoria secret commercials in kid frendly programming. If your child sees this sort of commercial then they are watching a program that probably isn't suitable for them in the first place.
If that is the case you have no one to blame but yourself.

isn't it hypocritical to have parents let thier kids watch shows like 'desperate houswives' and most any modern 'sitcom' and then complain about the commercials?

That's a good point, Painted Wolf. I listened to several callers to the program this morning, and the majority of them gave me the impression that they were inclined to watch such things as mud wrestling, and then turn around and complain that it wasn't censored. I kept wondering why they would watch mud wrestling in the first place, if they were so opposed to what they would see when watching it. And, eventually, I just wished they would grow up and take some personal responsibility for what they watch, rather than in effect blame what they watch on what's available to watch.

With the so called bad influences on children around these days, why are people worrying about adverts? I'd be more inclined to worry about adverts aimed at children rather than 'racy' adverts.

I think it's part of the sexual hysteria that's going aroung these days. For a good number of people, the most profound problems society faces are essentially sexual, whether that's unwanted teen pregnancies or homosexuality. But when you look at it, society faces a number of problems that are not at all sexual. For instance: the way kids are bombarded with advertising for unhealthy foods. That's certainly a problem, and anyone who has looked at the obesity rates of today's children knows it's a problem, but it's not a sexual problem -- so it doesn't get the attention of some people.

I thought the FCC already does that by determining what is fit for TV at certain times and what is not?

I think that parents need to take more responsibilty in determining what they feel is appropriate for their children to watch...

Is it true that Janet Jackson's two second display of a nipple has brought our society measurably closer to collapse?

I have a better suggestion. She should throw her TV out, rather than make such silly demands.

I agree.

One problem with some poeple is that they are too busy (lazy) to watch what their kids are doing, so they put them in front of the T.V. and let the T.V. do the babysitting. Then they complain when their kids don't behave properly. I don't get it. If you don't want your kids watching certain things, don't let them. Don't blame the ad agencies.

A pasty... Is that how you call a nip ple stretcher? :woohoo:
Sun worshippers must have smiled. :D

Inspite of what people want for their children and the world..
Any moment, the young "innocent" inexperienced human beings leave mothers wings it is an "R[V,SC,AL]" rated world outhere they have to survive in on their own...

It is no wonder kids love to go to Disneyworld/land.. They KNOW that it is not the same at home.. IF it was, they wouldn't need to go there.. ;)
