I'm not sure that the Abrahamic God overtly condemns women, but women are clearly marginalized, discriminated against, and made to feel less important than men.

I think that this person needs to expose themselves to more religions, as they clearly are not familiar with pretty much all of the contemporary Paganisms...

Am I the only one who sees intended irony in the statement? (Of course, without the original context, I can't tell if the original speaker, or the OP either, was intending the irony...)

DISAGREE. Gender positions have varied and still vary and evolve over times and cultures both secularly and religiously.

It certainly applies to Abrahamic religions, and I seem to remember that Buddha thought only men could reach enlightenment.

Of pagan religions, Hindus can be pretty sexist but their ancient scriptures aren't. In Shinto, when many priests were in the army in WW2, they replaced them with women priests, and the practice of having women priests continued after the War. Japanese society may be rather sexist, but the religion wasn't. Similarly, temple mediums in China used to be men and are now mostly women. Compare those changes to the hissy fits some Christians have at the thought of women priests!

The ancient pagan religions all had priestesses, even where the culture itself was patriarchal, and in Greece certain rites were reserved for women. These were sometimes tough options: Athens and Delphi both had groups groups of women who worshiped Dionysos up a mountain in midwinter, and we know of one occasion when a mountain rescue team had to rescue the Delphians trapped by a blizzard!

Certain Religions...you know what they are, outright say women are less than men and rape is ok. Any Religion that discriminates should be dismissed for it is not the product of a Kind, Just, Merciful deity. It is just a MANS idea.

They should probably get to learn more religions, then. And that's coming from an atheist. Sure there are certainly religions that marginalize women, including but not limited to the Abrahamic faiths, but by no means do all religions do this.

I think sexism is bad, but I would have no expectation that a god would agree with human ideas of right and wrong.

(...or have a manner of thinking that's similar enough to ours that the idea of a god "agreeing" is meaningful)

Can you give a few examples?
