Do You Become Offended When Rejects Your Idea of the Truth?

Just a question that popped up.
Do you(theists) become upset when someone rejects your idea of God?
Do you (atheists) become upset when someone rejects your idea that there is no God?
Does it not upset you?
If it does upset you, why is that? If it doesn't upset you, why not?

Personally speaking, I am not offended in the slightest.

I do, however, take great offense when someone (atheist, agnostic, theist, deist, etc.) assumes that they hold the only answer and tells the rest of us that we are wrong.

This is most usually compounded by theists that use their preferred religous text to substantiate their claim.

I'm not offended by ideas that contradict mine --they're just different ideas. The only time I might get offended is when someone presumes ideas as mine that are ones I've never even thought to think.

I view truth not as a variable subject that differs per person, but as one standing truth. I will not be offended when they bring there thoughts as opinion, but I will debate it when they bring it as the truth. Many religious people see a God/non-god debate as offence..

I'm not offended. I recognize that everyone has their own ideas and experiences, and they don't have to share mine in order to validate myself. Not to mention that different experiences are going to lead people in very different directions, to me it would be absurd to expect every single person to reach the same conclusion.

I'm much more likely to be offended by someone who tries to put words in my mouth than by someone who merely rejects whatever notions I might have.

So, if I'm reading your post correctly - you're saying that God does not exist, that George W. Bush is the greatest leader our nation has ever had, and that eating the flesh of animals is wrong!

I agree.

It depends how the rejection is stated, if the person just says "I don't believe that" or I don't accept that as true" then I wouldn't be offended. But if people called my beliefs/ideas idiotic and made fun of them then I would be a little hurt.

I'm not offended when people have different ideas than me. I don't like it when they try to tell me they're better than me because of it, though, or when those ideas cause them to treat others badly.

No, no, no. He said that anyone who doesn't eat babies is an idiot, and that we should do away with the two-term limit to presidencies and elect Bush as lifelong dictator of the U.S. I'm not sure how you could have missed that.

For Pete's sake. Sunstone was clearly espousing the clubbing of baby seals, and the need to funnel more federal money to the military-industrial complex.

While I personally don't agree with his stance on the use of nuclear engergy, that post could only lead us to beleive that Sunstone is clearly a socialist, commie loving, pinko hippy ***.

I cannot believe that you would imply that I like bestiality and hate America! You clearly have issues with Buddhists and thinly veil your insults of pirate-americans. You, sir, should apologize and retract your remarks about 45-year-old virgin trekkies!

Alas, I acquiesce.

My apologies for misreading Sunstone's post. After taking the time to reread his post, and your crystal clear breakdown of his ramblings, I have to agree.

Mea culpa.

... but I still think he's clubbing the baby seals ...

Doesn't upset me... what does bother me is when people misrepresent what it is that I believe.

It doesn't offend me if someone rejects what I believe to be truth. I just consider it their loss ;) if everyone doesn't agree with me..........No really I respect their belief and leave it at that........

Do you(theists) become upset when someone rejects your idea of God?
No, because a) I wish I could describe God better to myself, b) when I try to engage others in discussion, their eyes glaze over, and C) I've learned to accept that I am on my own in this.........
Does it not upset you?

I have (sort of) answered that; of course It would make me feel so much better if I felt I could "agree 100%" with others - and, there have been times when I think I am not far from doing so; amusingly enough, one is an atheist here.

Of course it doesn't upset me. I was a theist myself for most of my life, so I can't imagine what possible grounds I'd have for being upset with someone else for being a theist.
