Do you believe in purgatory?

On the one hand, I believe in Hades/the particular judgement of all souls prior to the Last Judgement. On the other hand, that's a bit different than Purgatory... I hit "not sure."

You could argue that Purgatory is a derivative of Hades/Sheol, or perhaps even just one part of it. And there is a buttload of references to Sheol/Hades throughout the OT and NT.

you could argue but your argument would not get far ..............if you stick to what the bible does say

Purgatory isn't mentioned in the Bible, but alluded to.

Old Testament (Catholic)
2 Maccabees 12:46: “Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be freed from sin.”

New Testament
Matt. 5:26,18:34; Luke 12:58-59 – “Come to terms with your opponent or you will be handed over to the judge and thrown into prison. You will not get out until you have paid the last penny."

I don`t believe in Purgatory, but I do not believe in a literal Hell and Heaven either. And to be honest, I'm probably more agnostic about any sort of Afterlife than anything! ;)

I don't think it's necessarily anti-Biblical, but I do see the concept of Purgatory as either a) stemming from Tradition, or b) a pious and non-essential belief. Things like Purgatory, the Assumption of Mary, and other such apocryphal things to me are less important than actually practicing the social Gospel of Christ.
