Do You Believe In War?

I believe God wants us to know him, and even more, to enjoy intimate friendship with him. The Bible invites us to " Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you." (James 4:8) John 17:3 says "This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ." From these and many similar expressions in Holy Scripture, we come to know God, not as a distant and terrifying bully, but as a tender-hearted and loving Father.
This is a concept in which you were taught, but I know of many who were taught God is to be feared. I agree however with your concept and further more believe that the more you know God the closer He will make you to Him. But there is fair warning as in the saying "be careful what you wish for you just might get it"; Knowledge can be given in many different ways and can be so cruel at times, but what has been accomplished through the learning is always worth Its cost:).

I also believe we should fear God, not in a morbid dread, but in awe of his almighty power we should fear to displease him. As Jesus said;"But I will show you whom to fear: Fear the One who after killing has authority to throw into Ge·hen′na." (Luke 12:5) I believe Gehenna is a symbol of everlasting destruction, a fate awaiting those who defy the true God.

Why or why not? Personally IMO we are a much too evolved species to not understand there are alternatives to extinction. What's your take?

horizon_mj1,
The Bible mentions war several times, every time to condemn it, except for God's war which will bring about the end of this world of mankind alienated from God, Ps 46:8,9, Isa 2:2-4.
When Jesus was on earth he said that anyone who takes up the sword, will die by the sword. Since everyone taking up the sword has not died by the sword, it must meGod has an that anyone taking up the sword that does not die by man's hand will die by the sharp, long sword protruding from Jesus mouth, Rev 1:12-16, 13:10, 19:11-16.
God has had recorded in His word that we are to SEEK PEACE AND PURSUE IT, 1Pet 3:11, Rom 5:1, 12:18.
In order for us to recognize the people who are God's chosen today we must have LOVE for each other, Matt 22:37-40, 1John 3:16.
The very first and basic rule of love is: DO NOT KILL EACH OTHER, 1John 3:10-12.

Very good references, and the way I see it as well, look at human History and all of Wars based on religion. Is it not quite hypocritical that the same people who claim to believe in books such as the Bible yet are the first to contradict it.:( Even if you do not believe in God, how can one not believe in Death. How many dominant species has this earth seen before us, are we arrogant enough to feel it is alright for us to kill each when Nature itself may very well be the one to do it for us.
