Do you find peace in your beliefs?

Religion is comfortable. It fulfills some need all humans have. But religion is highly illogical. All religions are equally as viable, and yet people believe firmly in one or another despite life's cruelty. I mean whatever deity you believe in probably isn't a massive saint but some old testament sandcastle smasher.

I'm not religious or even spiritual. And I'm downright fed up.
I appreciate your candor :)...what are you fed up with? Religion or life or something else entirely?

I don't know how others may feel, but as for me, outside of Jesus Christ, outside of Christianity, there is no peace only endless wandering, restless searching for a meaning to life. I tried it all, from A to Z, still wanting more, y'know? Even in the darkest pits of life, God, the words of the Holy Bible, all of it was and is and will always be my light. Jesus Christ is my standard for living! In everything I try to be, I try to imitate Him. I'm not ashamed of what I believe, because it's been my Rock. It's real to me, it's steadfast.
For me, I agree...but I'm open to people finding their own paths. My coming back to Christ was largely due to Him chasing after me, not the other way around. There are days I feel bad about that...not ashamed per se, but just that He had been there, and I had grown indifferent. Jesus lets us leave. No other love ...not the human kind...would let people leave and then go looking for you, and welcome you back with open arms when you finally realize that what you have been missing in your life is that Love.

It is interesting to read in this thread and elsewhere in the forums here, about two belief systems that I know little about but find interesting, if for no other reason than they are so vastly different from my own beliefs. One of them is the Left Path belief system, and the other is polytheism. Maybe I should study these, it could be an adventure of sorts.

I am also very much open to allowing people the space to find their own path to walk in life, but for me, Christ is the Truth, the Door to our Father's House.

I do find peace in my beliefs and as the faith is so simple, there are no niggling doubts like there are in many other faiths for me.

However, I also found a lot of peace within Germanic Paganism and I still wear my Mjolnir a lot. It does seem to call to me again sometimes.

I am at peace with my beliefs but troubled by how much of a problem so many people have with them and the trouble that it causes for my wife when I am vocal about them. I plan to always remain open and curious about new, well-reasoned and evidenced ideas, but I don't really feel like I am missing out on anything genuinely spiritual.

Nice to see you, Dionysus. :) I think because you were once Christian, she feels she 'lost' a piece of you, that was there at one time. Maybe look at it like that, and it might help.
Appreciate you sharing.

Are you asking
/whether our belief bring us peace
/whether we chose our beliefs because they bring us peace.

different questions.

I'd say most humans yearn for peace...peace within one's self, one's life, with others. When I was an atheist, it's not that I lacked a sense of peace in my life, but *something* seemed to be missing. I couldn't ever put my finger on it really, and so I searched for meaning in other faiths and belief systems. Coming back to Christianity, I've had a sense of peace over these past few months that had been missing. To me, you have found the 'right' path for want of a better word, if you are at peace in your life. If you are truly content with who you are, and how you are living...then you have found a path that works for you.

So, do you find peace in your beliefs? Atheists are always welcome to answer, for even though you may not hold spiritual or religious beliefs, you believe something. Look forward to your responses. :)

Hi Deidre,

Yes I find peace in my beliefs.

It's always nice to see you, sweet Dee. :) That might be a small part of the problem, but the larger problem is the perception and judgement of others, which I prefer to challenge.

Yes, I find peace in my beliefs. I tend to think a lot about my word view, and how new experiences fit into this. This isn't always an initially peaceful process, but I tend to worry at the details a little (like it was a hang nail...lol) until I see some coherence between the new experience and my world view.
Important thing to note here, though, is that atheism has nothing to do with my beliefs. It only pertains to some beliefs I don't have. My actual beliefs are entirely separate, and (like most, I guess) run the gamut from overarching idealogies to less rationalised beliefs that have stood the test of time (in particular, pertaining to social relationships, families, etc).

That is true about atheism. Do you ever feel that it's hard (for want of a better word) to live in such a religion-saturated culture?
