Do you find peace in your beliefs?

You just said everything that can be found in religion can be found without, that would include peace.

If you mean organized religion, yes. Atheist arent amune to peace anymore than theist have a deposition to it. Just theist (and other religious) desire to have community, structure, a spiritual purpose, a connection with a higher power, or understanding of innerself. Atheists can find most of these things (taking out supernatual) things too.

To me, religion is life. So there is no with orwithout religion. Both atheist and theist live religion. Its whatever brings them peace is their religion's focus. In other words, what ways people find peace is their religion.

I'd say most humans yearn for peace...peace within one's self, one's life, with others. When I was an atheist, it's not that I lacked a sense of peace in my life, but *something* seemed to be missing. I couldn't ever put my finger on it really, and so I searched for meaning in other faiths and belief systems. Coming back to Christianity, I've had a sense of peace over these past few months that had been missing. To me, you have found the 'right' path for want of a better word, if you are at peace in your life. If you are truly content with who you are, and how you are living...then you have found a path that works for you.

So, do you find peace in your beliefs? Atheists are always welcome to answer, for even though you may not hold spiritual or religious beliefs, you believe something. Look forward to your responses. :)

I never found peace in church. I was taught to fear God and to be afraid of his punishments....he was not my Father, but my judge...and a mean one at that. It's hard to love someone you fear. I saw Jesus as the kind and gentle part of God but his Father was cruel and dictatorial. I had no real understanding about the holy spirit, so it was a very confused view that I had of this person called God.

I could not make sense of it so I left Christianity too for a while but like you, I found no real satisfaction in any other faith. I tried living life without God but for some reason he kept pulling me back.
I resisted going back to the hypocrisy of the church, so I tried just being a Christian on my own....still something was missing. Then Jehovah's Witnesses knocked on my door and showed me who my Father really was. I realized that I had never known him. Now I do, and the peace I have and the hope I have for the future keeps me positive and fills me with hope and satisfaction whilst we wait for the restoration of the real life that Adam stole from us. Everything he lost will be returned to us.....living in paradise on earth with the ones I love, as caretakers of this beautiful planet, is something I look forward to every day. ;)

Therefore the being you wish to have a personal relationship wanted people to be stoned to death at one point in time.

No, if I was at peace that would imply I do not wish to change things and I do wish to bring about positive change in the world.

Jesus never wanted anyone to be stoned to death. And being at peace doesn't mean you lack compassion. Or don't wish to help others lol

Are you angry about religion or Christianity specifically?

The "ceremonies, rituals, culture, beliefs" people have are their life. There is no separation. Atheist and theist both share the same result-peace, just they go by different means of obtaining it. The religious need religion just as an atheist may need family to make themselves at peace. Its not a necessity to choose what type of life you wan to live. When you choose that lifestyle, it is your life-->thats religion.

You just said you believe in the trinity and look what they ordered.
Leviticus 24:16 - And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, [and] all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name [of the LORD], shall be put to death.

Peace: freedom from disturbance; quiet and tranquility.
I am afraid I cannot be at peace because the state of the world disturbs me.

Angry? I'm actually very calm at the present moment.

Those are not always ands, Some of them are ors

1. Some people find religion in something highter than themselves.

2. Some find it in any belief system that does not need to have gods as their focus (Buddhism is an example)

3. Religion of all types supernatual and not are important to the people who follow it.

As such, it is their life.

This is a better less limited definition of religion: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/religion

The dictionary doesnt hold claims to a persons definition of life and how they live it.

"A set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe"

How they practice these sets of beliefs is religion.

When one adopts that religion (set of beliefs and practices) it becomes their life.

It doesnt "especially" need to have supernatual deities (as mentioned as an option in the definition). It usually does (and that is not always the case)

Study world religions and compare them to how people themselves see religion. Its a pesonal word. Its ones life.

Yes, "we was robbed!!"

If Adam had only stuck to his God instead of his wife, none of us would be in this mess. All he had to do was obey one simple command but the rebel spirit known as satan the devil deceived the woman in an attempt to get the man to disobey his God....it worked! Divide and conquer has been his favorite tactic ever since. :(

If the devil had approached Adam directly, there would in all probability, have been a different outcome. Actually there were a few scenarios that might have played out back then. It is interesting to explore them.
However satan knew that Adam had waited a long time for a mate, so he used the woman to get to his real target. The Bible lays the blame for our situation squarely at the feet of the man, not the woman. (Rom 5:12)

Adam took away from his children the wonderful life that God first planned for us. The earth was supposed to be "filled" with human beings who would all contribute to transforming the earth outside of the garden into a beautiful place for us to live. Everlasting life in the most wonderful conditions was supposed to be the outcome of that scenario, but rebellion, first by the devil, and then by the woman, and finally by the man, put everything out of kilter. But not to have his purpose thwarted, the Creator set about putting in place the means to get us back what Adam lost. It centers around the sacrifice of Jesus and the setting up of a heavenly kingdom to take us back to God. I have great hopes for the future.

So good to read that you have found your path of peace.
I thank God every day for the hope of the "new earth" where I believe redeemed humanity will enjoy eternity in the most beautiful and peaceful surroundings. :)

You are not getting it. Religion is a personal word. People do define religion because they are the ones living it. Not all religions have the supernatual. Not all religions have rituals and ceremonies. Not all religions seek a higher power. They do all seek the purpose and nature of the universe and how they live in it. Thats in the definition online. I dont go by definitions when it comes to spirituality. One person's pagan is another persons devil worshiper. One persons christian is another persons idol worshiper.

Religion is very personal. The dictionary is an trying to find an objective way to incorporate practices they feel all religions have. They dont. I know this. Dictionaries can bias others plain out wrong. Religion is personal.

You are argueing for subjective definition.

In which any person can use any word anyway they like and consider it to be true and expect others to do the same.

That idea is absurd and destroys the purpose of language.

If you have a concept you do not have a word for make a new one or explain the concept in several words, do not try to usurp a previous word.

Religion is a subjective word. Ask a Catholic, Buddhist, Pagan, and Atheist what religion is. Based on their subjective experiences and bias, youd get different answers. The dictionary cannot define things like religion, god, spirit, soul because they are subjective words and differ per person.

That is one thing many non religious people must accept: religion is subjective

Word: a single distinct meaningful element of speech or writing, used with others (or sometimes alone) to form a sentence and typically shown with a space on either side when written or printed.

The term Subjective Word is an oxymoron and thus a logical fallacy.

Put it this way, I'm in love with someone now. I'm engaged. So, that's one kind of love. And I love my parents, and family members and friends...and that's another kind of love. But, Jesus gives a different type of love, and shows me in His teachings how to love, without expectation. That is not a love I'm used to. Can we love others without expectation, and be atheists? I imagine so. But, no one will love me, the way He does. It's a very different kind of love.

Go to sleep :p

It is a word that has no concrete definition. It depends on the person not a book.
