I have not had it but I doubt I would like it. Blueberries seem to me to be the most pointless fruit in existence, being almost totally tasteless. Fruit pies with apple (and a few cloves), or else apple and blackberry, or apple and raspberry, or rhubarb, are a much better bet, in my view.

They are in season here, known as myrtille they are bought in punnets from market stalls (or supermarkets)

In a pie made with sweet french pastry and served with fresh whipped cream or a good vanilla ice cream,

Yes i like them. Also in muffins, scones or small tarts.

Then you've never had real blueberries -- by which I mean wild blueberries versus those insipid farmed things. There is simply no comparison. Where I grew up, it was only a short drive to the Gatineau Hills where we could pick wild blueberries to our hearts content, and they are full of great flavour, and really, really nutritious.

Because of that, I would eat cultivated blueberries if you paid me.

YES! Come to think of it I have once had wild ones and they were indeed a different experience. It's a similar story with blackberries. The supermarket ones are huge, puffed up with water and almost tasteless. But the wild ones I pick on Wandsworth Common have plenty of flavour. That reminds me - I'd better go down there and have a look to see if there are any left. (It being Wandsworth Common, one can only pick the ones that are out of p***ing range of the numerous dogs.)

I prefer gooseberry pie.

Yes I like that too, but one barely sees gooseberries in the shops any more in London, sadly.

Damsons, however, are back on the market stall. I bought a kilo yesterday, stewed them with sugar and froze them in batches. Delicious with Greek yoghourt. I'm going to do a repeat tomorrow so that I have stock for the year. :)
