Meh. I'd rather get cash.

My extended family does Christmas gift exchanges. Though a lot of the family is close, I'm not, primarily because they're all big Facebookers, and I am not. I'm somewhat of a stranger to some of them. There was a few years in a row that whoever drew my name would just get me a Wal-Mart gift card. Unfortunately, that's the one store I don't shop...

I dont see the point of going to a shop, buying a gift card then sending it to someone who must spend it in that shop or an affiliate shop.

Much better to send the money rather than the gift card. That way the recipient can spend it anywhere.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.

True. I've gotten gift cards for places I don't really go to or care to go to.

Cash or check is better.

I love getting them. Tbh, some people just suck at giving gifts so this is a win for both IMO. I have a sibling that means well but their choice of gifts is just... no. It's like they only partially pay attention to what you like and buy something they like that happens to have that theme. Like, I like cats. But that doesn't mean I'm going to like something just because there are cats on it. E.g., one time it was a broach, a very nice expensive one...I don't wear broaches. They're older than me, have literally known me my entire life, and should know what I wear or don't. They were very taken by the artistry (again, nice but not my style). I much prefer it when they're rushed and "settle" for giving me a gift card, their money is better spent that way.
