In many cases I find it distracting if the conversation isn't based on scripture.

How would you know that the conversation wasn't based on scripture, unless you read the scripture. :D

I read the NT once, mostly just to so I can say I've read it. Unfortunately, my memory sucks so people often bring up passages I don't remember.

Just to try and make sure I'm responding correctly, I read/check scripture provided.

I put no, because at least 75% of the time, I don't. There are a few exceptions, one of them being if I see the scripture in a DIR I participate in, or if it is in the OP and is the topic of discussion.

Edit: I should also add I am more likely to read it if the verse is short and sweet, or the person posting it doesn't often quote scripture(provided they're doing so in a positive manner, and not just belittling/arguing against someone else's beliefs.)

True. I usually read it if it's short and not used in a "this is why I'm right" manner. Rarely I use scripture myself but it turns into a who knows scripture best than what is the message its trying to say.

Usually scripture post are cited by verse. If it's a block of text I skip it.

I read the bible but too I forgot most of it. Those I remember people have twenty different views that knowing the right view is near impossible. That or people debate over whose smarter... So I give up.

Yes, unless it is screeds and screeds, as I assume it has relevance to the point the poster wishes to make. (If it doesn't then I get annoyed of course.)

I usually skim it if its a wall of text.

Scriptures usually don't mean anything to me like an adherent might, so quoting them seems rather useless and pointless in cases.

If it's a discussion in which I'm involved, and the scripture is relevant to said discussion, then yes, I read the scripture.

However, if it's posted by one of those here that just posts scripture because they either unable to or are too lazy to post a coherent thought of their own, I typically keep on scrollin'.

If it's over a few verses, my eyes glaze over

I especially avoid anything with randomly enlarged words in different colors, which seems to be a common tactic with posters in some religious chats / forums

If it's a conversation about the Bible, then I'll often read the scripture someone posts.

If it's about some other topic and someone just inserts a Bible passage into the conversation, I'll pretty much always ignore it.

Edit: all this assumes the poster clearly quoted or linked to the Bible passage. The RF forum software will automatically turn Bible passage references into a link to the passage, so I don't usually click if it looks like that's what happened.

I'm only interested in what the person has to say. I never read the scripture they quote. If you have to use somebody else's thoughts, you most likely don't understand your own religion well enough to explain it in your own words.
