Do you remember when...

We Never Know

No Slack
Do your remember when TV commercials were about things like food?
For example..
frosted flakes, they're great
rice krispies snap, crackle & pop
craft cheese, its the cheesiest.
Now days all we see are commercials for...
Insurance, you need more coverage
injury lawyers lets sue
medicine lawyers lets sue
donate to this/that for $19.00 a month etc.
Everything has changed in the last 25 years, most just didn't notice.

Honestly I see far more ads for shows on various streaming services.

Injury and Medicine lawyers is more of a US thing, honestly

All I know is I'm seeing My Pillow commercials in my sleep.

Which is ironic.

Seeing too many commercials for sports betting and the 'price, price, price' insurance ad forces a 'mute'

I had no idea about this because I stopped watching television over a decade ago.

For those of you who have never seen good commercials on American television, search for '90s commercials' or '80s commercials' on YouTube.

Don't forget all the drug commercials.
Showing happy people doing happy things while reading a list of horror side-effects...
And car commercials. Lots of those.
But I only watch the news @10 and only for the weather really.

We don't see any food ads because TV time is so expensive, only deep pockets can afford it.

Now with political ads, I keep the remote with Mute in my hand.

We are getting more lawyers in Australia advertising their services to "get what you are entitled to" for people who have been injured in some way.

It's funny, since in recent years, most of my TV viewing is from streaming channels - some of which do have commercials, but delivered in a different way than what's typical for broadcast or cable stations.

So, I guess I'm among those who haven't really noticed the changes in commercial TV these past years.

I remember local commercials could be rather cheesy, but memorable - at least among people who live in the area where they're broadcast.

Advertising has become the equivalent of rust in metals, and perhaps a lot worse, given it can be quite hard to avoid much even though being forced to watch stuff that we might never buy, and will just make many angry, seems beyond those who like to force it upon us. I've just had to throw one email address in the bin after it got too insistent. Plenty more out there though, dumb****s!

I don't watch adverts any longer. Does that make me a terrible person? I do tolerate them sometimes on the internet, but I don't tolerate them in videos. If I am listening to radio in a car and a commercial comes on I hit seek. Why? Because I'm not in the car long enough to make it worth my while to wait for the best music to return. I think I may as well listen to some music I don't like as much.

Yeah that’s true. It’s still nothing like the US. Like damn, that was like every second ad I saw watching tv there lol

Honestly neither do I.
I mostly watch steaming services or YouTube these days. Only time I watch tv is for sports events that I’m interested in. And I tend to skip ads whenever possible.
So we can be terrible people together ;)

What are commercials like now?

And some people are flipping out because they're having coping problems.

I am having trouble coping! :( I miss chit-chatting on the phone! This texting business be damned!

Yes. I also remember when there would be a commercial at the beginning of a program, one in the middle and at the end, now it seems like every 5 or so minutes there's a commercial break.

There has been a massive shift from what was a once fairly normal and stable society to what is going on now.

Lawyers are a significant factor as to who's to blame for all of it.

There has been a massive shift from what was a once fairly normal and stable society to what is going on now.

Normal? Only for certain people - not blacks especially in the Jim Crow South, not for women who were expected to stay home,, have children, cook meals and obey their husbands and not for members of other religions who faced discrimination as my parents and I did for being Jewish. And especially not for children being abused by priests.

The stability of the 1950's and early 1960's was built on sand and deserves to die. We can choose to help something new take it's place or choose not to help.
