In 1999, I went on a road trip to Virginia with some university friends. We piled into our 2 cars and headed south.New Just the internal conflicts and all that. Or is it just the flaw of the political system that wasnt exposed til it had run its course?
It wasn't Bin Laden. The only ones who really changed things were Bush and everyone who signed for the PATRIOT act and allowed the creation of the TSA.Terrorism changes the way every country works.
Changes are made to stop repeats of atrocities, peoples freedoms may be challenged.
When flying we can't take bottles, we get significant security scans, checks.
Abandoned cases/bags cause security alerts.
BUT it wasn't just OBL who did this, in the UK the IRA changed our lives.
The IRA were terrorising the UK well before Bin Laden. It wasn't Bin Laden. The only ones who really changed things were Bush and everyone who signed for the PATRIOT act and allowed the creation of the TSA.
Bin Laden didn't do that.

We used to have the greatest un-defended open border on the face of the earth between two countries. In 1999, I went on a road trip to Virginia with some university friends. We piled into our 2 cars and headed south.
At the border, I was in the second car. Our friends pulled up to the booth, talked to the border guard for a bit, then went on through.
We moved up to the booth. The border guard asked "is everyone in the car Canadian?"
"Yep."
"Are you going to the same place they are?"
"Yep."
"Okay - go ahead."
Didn't even ask to see ID.
I haven't had a border experience like that since 2001.
Rambo 3 was based on that time. And what about this whole thing I have read, that the U.S. wanted them to fight the soviets. That wasn't mentioned in the clip
Jingoism and fascism destroyed all that.We used to have the greatest un-defended open border on the face of the earth between two countries.
Terrorism destroyed all that.
The vast overreach and oversight of government and mass violation of rights, that was not an automatic or necessary action. And then creation on the Thieves and Sexual Aggressors (TSA) was not necessary or some automated response. The IRA were terrorising the UK well before Bin Laden.
The UK government made the changes, not Bush or the Patriot Act.
The Patriot act was a direct response to the actions of Al Qaeda. It wasn't Bin Laden. The only ones who really changed things were Bush and everyone who signed for the PATRIOT act and allowed the creation of the TSA.
Bin Laden didn't do that.
A reaction was going to happen. The Patriot act was a direct response to the actions of Al Qaeda.
I liked Bush.A reaction was going to happen.
Bush led the charge for a disaster of a response. A better ran state likely would have done different.
He threw many of our necessary rights to be protected from the state out the window. He basically nullified parts of the Constitution, all in the name of security.I liked Bush.
It would have been more fitting if he had spent his retirement at GITMO, magically out of range of habeas corpus.I liked Bush.
