Do you think the priest in "Doubt" did it?

Doubt is one of my favorite movies of the past 10 years and this has been a subject of great controversy... at least to me, my movie buff friends and on forums.

Anyway, simply put: do you think the accused priest was guilty? Personally, I don't think he did anything wrong. I think he was innocent. Why? Three reasons.

1.) People take his resignation at the end as his "confession", but I took it as a man who ultimately realized that, no matter how he tried, this woman would not stop. Even after she told him she had no real evidence, other than the kid who pulled his arm away. As such, it was better for him, and everyone else, if he buried the hatchet and quit.

2.) While I do not think he committed any crime, I do think he was a homosexual. That is why his bond was strong with Donald. He knew how hard it is to be different and he could lend out a helping hand and an understanding ear.

3.) Lastly, from my observation, it is much easier for viewers to automatically say he was guilty simply because the character was a priest. Some priests have done horrible things to children in the past, therefore this priest who is being accused of the same thing must be guilty.

What do you think?

I haven't seen the movie in a while, but I don't think so. I think he saw himself in the same situation Jesus was in the Christian Bible so he took on the blame and guilt despite his innocence for the better good of the community.

I think they made it purposely ambiguous.

So, rather than wondering if a real person did or did not do something, it's about wondering which side a purposely ambiguous piece of film falls on, which I find to be usually fruitless.

I watched it and I didn't think it was ambiguous at all. The priest clearly did it, why else did he lie and pack it in? It's been a long while since I watched it though.
