Does anyone else in the US feel...

I think one of the distinguishing characteristics of Americans as a people is our ability to dispense with the past and reinvent ourselves. If we could manage to find the will, we could make a comeback.

I think Americans are too arrogant to admit when they're sinking. We'd rather pretend that the boat is fine, and that, if there is anything wrong, well, it's someone else's job to fix. We hit the iceberg a long time ago, and we're in the final throws before the ship goes completely under.

That america is a sinking ship? Like the titanic and our fall is soon inevitable.

No.

I would say first/developing world human civilization as a whole needs to seriously restructure itself or face collapse given its dependency on unsustainable practice and excessive population. The United States is actually pretty well poised to avoid the worst effects of this, presuming its citizens can get over the gluttonous lifestyles it's become accustomed to. We've got plenty of land, and most importantly, some of the most productive agricultural land in the world.

And I, for one, would wholeheartedly support such a comeback. To think of the incredible things America has done over the years. I believe her best days are yet to come. Then again, I am a dreamer.

I don't think we're a sinking ship, but I do think we've veered off course.
There's still time to pull our collective head out of our *** and get back on track.

The sinking would be based on the voters and who they elect. I'm not sure America is sinking, but the GOP is about to hit the bottom of whatever abyss they've created.
Like I've mentioned before, I can understand people in the top 5% voting republican for tax benefits, but people beyond that shouldn't be. The right wing media are intertwined with each other to create this illusion that strangely is targeting the seniors in America.

I'm not either democrat or republican . But there has to be a balance. Right now the parties are not working together. Mainly because we have a president who doesn't give a **** because so this republicans do not wish to work with him. You need someone who will make compromises. Such as Bill Clinton. Because the right wing knows how to keep the economy going and the left watches out for the people in a broad sense. Too many democrats= socialism too many republicans=facism

We should swap politicians for a while. You get our muppets and we get yours. Can't see it helping either counter but at least the sound bytes would be fresh for a while.

Works for me. I will even throw in the loose change in my car and a half full pack of gum.

So you blame Obama for the lockouts? I was under the impression that it was the GOP that felt basically offended by the very idea of working with him instead.

As for socialism, well, it sure looks like the USA could use a bit of it.

I blame both of them. Because they are both are responsible and won't compromise. I don't care if someone hurt your feelings it's your job to suck it up. Obama is certainly not the best president ever. I wish he would have received more experience in working with the other party through being in the senate longer. The GOP is too blame as well because when an olive branch is extended to them they turn it down.

But politics is basically pork and favors. Not this drama bs shown on the news. They sure as hell don't show us all the innocent people we kill in the Middle East by bomb strikes. Nor uprising in China

Really depends on what is proposed. I like to view the costs and benefits for the United States and myself. Just because a program is socialist doesn't make it a good one. Nor, does it being socialist make it bad. If you want to look at the quickly made great deal we can. They knew they were sacrificing our future for then. They even said so. Now people can't get SS because it was rushed and they didn't look at the growth rates.

A country is still afloat as long as other countries think they will honour their debts.
The USA is long past the ability to pay off its national debt.
It is living on goodwill.

There is no reason to think that the situation will change.
But if it does who will be left holding the real assets?

The country will continue with new owners.....
may be to every ones advantage.
You could all live like happy Chinamen.

In trouble? Yes

Need to make some major changes? Yes

Sinking Ship? Not yet.

We are headed towards the rocks in certain ways but right now we are still doing better than a large number of other countries. We need to get our inequality problem, healthcare problem, government spending problem, debt problem and education problems fixed. If that happens I think we are prime real estate for being the vastly superior #1 economic power this planet has ever seen. We have the resources and connections to make it. We have corrupt politicans and a bunch of leeches on our society that likes to suck the life out of our economy. This welfare state needs to end.
