Does Atheism Lead to Immoral Behavior?

Mankind are always looking for loopholes .. they naturally don't like the taxman,
or being demoted in status.
I need no philosophical loopholes. This is cuz I don't
believe in arbitrary prescriptions & proscriptions
imposed by a sacred book. So I get to comport
myself according to values I hold without coercion.

You know, I really wish somebody would do a bit of questioning about how the topic of this thread (does atheism lead to immorality) reflects on what just happened in the Tennessee legislature. Tell me that the 75% of the Republicans in that house are primarily atheist, and that's why the ejected two black men, and not one white woman, when all three were engaged in precisely the same thing.

I'll tell you what -- this was unquestionably white CHRISTIANS saying "you black boys don' wanna be gittin' uppity!"

Or tell them that are contradictory systems of truth in some systems of religion.
I do that too.
You have learn that your truth is not the truth, if I can do differently, not matter how much you play with the words evidence, logic, proof and truth.
What I believe is 'the truth' is either the truth or not. Because you can do it differently has no bearing on whether it is the truth or not.

One gains a conscience and moral judgement like one gains any other physical or psychological trait: by natural selection of adaptive traits over many generations.
So, you have not gained moral judgement, then?
You are what age, again. I'm sure you are not even a generation old.

Blindly following a list of apparently arbitrary rules, that might once have been useful amongst sheep herders, with no regard for their consequences, seems a poor basis for moral behavior.
It's the height of folly, to blindly follow anything... unless, of course, you are blind, and you have a guide dog.

No .. that is happening due to the global nature of the world.
Furthermore, it is debatable whether the govt. is responsible for punishing women
for not wearing hijab.
In Islam, a man is responsible for his familt, and if ladies dress inappropriately, he should
chastise them .. not necessarily some "morality police".
What if he behaves inappropriately; who chastises him?
Where does one draw the line, though?
What if women decide to walk around topless?
Is that acceptable? Not in my opinion, it isn't.
It's perfectly OK with me. I've lived in communes where both sexes routinely stripped off on hot days.
Go to a park in New York city or Berlin on a Summer day and you might see topless women sitting unashamèdly -- in front of God and everyone -- with noöne raising an eyebrow.

I'd give generalised toplessness not more than two or three days before it all became a yawn.

My bold. I never had that as an atheist. I lack a positive belief in God, but I never had a belief against God.
Then you are not atheist in the true sense of the word.
You may be atheist, in the popularized version... just like the popularized version of Christianity, billions fit under.

Evangelical, atheism is a very, very odd religious notion and could be part of an atheist’s thoughts without them knowing. Wine of confusion- spirit of stupor can keep a person in a very, very dark, dead spiritual place.
You just keep making things up.
Ever occur to you that it's because
you've nothing of substance to say,
nothing to criticize except what you make up?

No religious beliefs
Control = trying to cause people to reject their faith.
We need to think about where we are, and how much power any of us has to control anyone. It's a discussion forum.

Anyone thinking of joining can browse the threads and if they don't like what they see they can leave it at that.

Anyone who does join and contribute should have accepted that there will be some disagreement with their personal beliefs. A moderately thick skin is probably a requirement, if you don't want to be offended.

RF is not the whole world. Anyone who feels his or her faith slipping can go to their church, atheist group or whatever and have it bolstered.

At any time, anyone can either ignore a thread or a person or even not come here any more.

If you came here to try to change anyone's mind, it's probably a fool's errand. (Believers and non believers both). Have fun trying though!

So, if you are not enjoying yourself in what is essentially a friendly place, move on. No shame in that.
