Does Atheism Lead to Immoral Behavior?

Nor do I see any benefit in imprisoning people for sexual misdemeanours.
What is a sexual misdemeanor? Having sex with someone outside of marriage? if so, that should not be illegal at all.

I believe in capital punishment for rape.
I have some issues with capital punishment in general, but I basically agree.
However, if anybody commits false witness, that is a very serious crime.
The punishment would be as if they committed the crime that they accused another.
Perjury is a serious crime, yes.

It depends what you mean by rape .. ABH [ actual bodily harm ] would not have been ignored.

Forced sex by a husband on a wife was not considered to be a crime. It should be.

Bodily harm was often NOT a consideration. Bruises, broken bones, etc were ALL considered 'domestic cases' and simply ignored if the woman didn't press charges (which often happened because she had no other resources).

Yes, when I lost my faith, I suddenly felt the irresistible need to turn into Hannibal the Cannibal.

ciao

Why is cannibalism wrong? I mean if the person is already dead.
There exists some tribes were cannibalism is a crucial part of their culture.
So we are not rationalizing murder, we are only rationalizing the consumption of the flesh of your own species.
Why is that wrong. You, unless you are a vegetarian, eat the flesh of other species.
So you became a cannibal. Not such a big deal is it?

I don't base my moral behavior on law.
Yes, you do; we all do.
Otherwise, most humans would be going through red lights, or cheating on taxes, or DUI, etc….

It may not be based on law, but it’s governed by it.
Drugs would remove or greatly reduce one of the untoward effects cited for promiscuity, would they not?
So, more drugs for our already pharmaceutical-saturated society, eh?
How about just exercising restraint, to ward off all of those “untoward effects” plaguing our cultures?

At least you admit there are some untoward effects.
I was thinking more of knowing your venereal health status, contact tracking, practicing safe sex, &c.
Now really, if a man has more opportunities to reach instant sexual satisfaction, which a promiscuous society more easily allows…. he’s gonna stop and consider those things? The bull that some men act like?

[Conception] Easily prevented.

It can be. No birth control which still allows for intercourse is 100% effective, though.
No effect on emotional pain afterwards or broken trust issues resulting from feeling abandoned.

But it need not be.
We’re emotional creatures; we deal with feelings for more complex than any animal.
Not just ours alone, but other humans we interact with. And we can’t speak for them.

Especially someone we just met, to have a one-nighter with.

Fatal Attraction, anyone?

Casual sex amongst unmarried teens occurs in many cultures, with no stigma, feeling of being thrown away, or expectation of bonding.
Sources, please.
I'm sure the Taliban's treatment of women as perpetual children or even livestock seems wise to them, as well.
Please!
Nowhere near
what we’re discussing!

Sexual self-control applies to both sexes. Probably more so to men.
the guilt and shame after promiscuous sex is not an intrinsic result of the behavior, but of the mores themselves.
I say it is inherent. If it weren’t, there wouldn’t be the unhappiness, in the long run, we observe in those that engage in promiscuity. (Scientific sources are available for this result, too.)
What if lads actually used the condom they carry in their wallets?
Yeah, what about that? Interesting that you just said they have the protection, but don’t use it!

“I wanna feel you naturally, baby!”

There’s the raging bull again... (Leave it at that; I almost said, “raising its ugly head”, but the innuendo hit me, lol.)
For that matter, why should an accidental pregnancy result in a child at all?

Oh yeah, abortion. I was expecting this argument.

This presents a whole new set of guilt feelings for the female.

But we see unwanted children born all the time, don’t we? Abortion can be expensive! Complications can arise.
All a result of poor planning
Planning is great! Goes along with patience.
But again, quick sex doesn't lead to “thinking things through.”

All a result of poor planning, poor hygiene or poor social mores, not sex, per se.
Just curious…are you married?
How do you feel about commitment?

I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree, but some behaviors should be frowned on, so that society can grow strong and flourish!

I know we can agree on this: we don’t need more selfish and uncaring individuals, leading to more criminals, in our societies!

That's absurd .. it's a major problem in the "West", where marriage is becoming
"unfashionable".
Most murder mysteries are about greed of money and/or sex.
..crime of passion bla bla.
Your God teaches it best. You know, the jealous God you worship.

That is a contradiction..
If a woman does not like their husband, then why did she marry him?

If the man has "changed" and become intolerant of his wife, then she should seek divorce.

Crying "rape" and expecting him to be killed by capital punishment is absurd.

In USA false accusations of rape are treated lightly,
often without any prosecution. So the death penalty
for a crime that is often based on a he-said-she-said
conviction is too final. It should be possible to
reverse a conviction found to be false.

There are lots of reasons why a woman might not want sex that are not disliking her husband. She might be tired, or have a low hormone level, or simply have something she would rather do at that time. There's no reason to expect her (either partner in fact) to be universally available for sex and no excuse for the rejected partner using force to get what he wants.

Incidentally, how she felt about the guy before the marriage will not necessarily continue afterwards. Ask anyone who is married.
If the man has "changed" and become intolerant of his wife, then she should seek divorce.
Yes if she so decides, and while she if waiting for the divorce to happen she should not be subjected to rape.
Crying "rape" and expecting him to be killed by capital punishment is absurd.

Expecting someone who has raped you to be criminally charged and punished is perfectly reasonable, in or out of marriage. The actual punishment would be defined by law, not determined by the victim's expectations.

Atheists are people that deny God's existence.
You think polytheists are atheists?

Modern day atheists are people who claim atheists are people with no god belief.

It's pretty simple. How many gods does a person believe in?

- more than one: polytheist
- exactly one: monotheist
- zero: atheist

Not much different really, but that popularized belief makes every child of a certain age an atheist... which is not accurate.
It's accurate; you just don't like it.

People change. It is very, very far from being a contradiction, unfortunately.
If the man has "changed" and become intolerant of his wife, then she should seek divorce.
Maybe he didn't show his violent tendencies during courtship. That is very common.

You talk as if divorce is an easy thing to do. At the very least, there is the question of how the woman is going to support herself. Usually there are questions about children.
Crying "rape" and expecting him to be killed by capital punishment is absurd.
Usually the only desire is that he be kept away. Seldom is capital punishment a consideration.

muhammad_isa, your post clearly demonstrates to me just how ignorant you are about marital rape. For the record, I'm an advocate for battered women and their children who are domestic violence victims. I'm also a married woman, a rape victim at the age of 17, and a former Christian who has assisted many Christian women in escaping abusive marriages and seeking justice against an abusive husband who raped her. I'm pleased to report that many of these violently abusive husbands (and they are Christians) were charged with and convicted of marital rape and aggravated assault, among other charges.

Also, I've gone to court with these women so that I can give them the emotional support that they will need to face their abusive husband and the often horrendous cross examination by heartless and soulless male defense attorneys who portray these women as liars and treat them as if they asked for it.

So stop being repressive and intolerant. Remove the causes of the jealousy and rivalry.
I don't see cohabitation tolerant countries as hotbeds of turmoil and anarchy.

Most murder mysteries are about greed of money and/or sex.
Not necessarily, though their target audiences do understand the motivations.
..such as?
...those mentioned in some of my previous posts.

One God is in decline.
Compared to the coarse of human history the current rebellion and indifference will be a fart in the wind! In 130-40 years all the atheist and religious on earth now will be dead and gone, a whole new crop of people facing new circumstances will take their place. Eventually the kingdom of heaven will prevail.
