Does Your Brain Have a Jukebox?

I "hear" music in my head quite frequently. Often it is the last song I heard on the radio, other times it's a word in a thought that triggers a song.

This morning, for no reason that I can surmise, Orinoco Flow by Enya started playing out of nowhere. I haven't heard the song in years, and I can't think of anything that was rattling around in my brain that would trigger the song...no water, nothing about South America, nothing about Enya, and nothing about sailing. This rarely happens, so I'm at a loss as to what triggered this particular song to play.

Does anyone else experience any of this?

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Yep. Fun isn't it?

Unless that annoying irritating tune gets stuck on replay.

Yada Yada Yada Yada yada.... whoo hoo whoo whoo hoo whoo hooo....

Help me!

Songs get stuck in my head, more often just simple riffs. If I hear any one of Roadhouse Blues by The Doors, Dancing Days by Led Zeppelin, or So What by Miles Davis, that hook is in my head for days.

Just occasionally a song will pop into my head, particularly when im driving long motorway distances with the music player off.

Perhaps it's boredom that triggers it.

Edit. On long drives when a song pops into my thoughts I'll wind up singing along to it... Much to the amusement of the children.

Yes. From an early age, I had like seven or eight simultaneous channels playing in my mind, several trains of thought, mostly on low volume until it was needed, and a couple of music stations. Really, it is like having several radio stations going at once. Since the onset of my migraine/dementia/etc., it's been reduced to two or three stations, usually one is music, which can range from whatever advertising jingle or theme music was just on TV, to some of my favorite performers, to music that I think is compositions for my own edification...I certainly don't recognize having heard them before. Unfortunately, I never learned to write music...

Maybe learn to play an instrument. That way you could record what your brain creates.

Or start using a DAW (digital audio workstation). That way you can compose any music you want using any instruments you like, even if you don't play an instrument in real life.

Some of them are pretty user friendly, and with AI I expect it to get even easier as time goes on.

Here's the one I use: Make music in an online DAW

It's free and it's online so you don't have to download anything.

Here's some of my stuff that I created there:
Please ignore anything with "ARM" in the title. It stands for "A Random Mess": several attempts to turn an idea into a composition, none of which turned out very well (and I can't figure out how to hide those). :p

Also, "Untitled song" is kind of loud, so if you're wearing headphones you should probably turn the volume down.

Sometimes the 'music' in my head isn't even songs I know, just random stuff my brain creates.

Its annoying.

You might want to try all that too. :p

Not constantly, but frequently enough. I sometimes even wake up or fall asleep singing a song in my head that I haven't heard in a while.

I frequently get earworms. For some reason they are usually the second last music I have been listening to. This is especially likely when I am learning a piece for singing. But sometimes something will pop up randomly.

I actually know how to play several instruments(though am admittedly out of practice on them all).

I tend to 'mumble sing' anymore... And not always songs I necessarily choose, just what comes out. There are a lot of children's songs mumble sung around here(and one random sailor's shanty).

I thought it was completely random, but since the van broke down, I keep catching myself singing this one, so there must be some thought process to it:

Thanks for the suggestions. I learned to read music in elementary/junior high school band (I played the baritone) and I later learned to play the guitar. I just never had the drive...well, it was, 'when I have some time free, I'm gonna do that...one of these days...' Since the cognitive issues, I haven't really been able to play or even much listen to music, unless I can do it at a fairly low volume and with frequent interruptions...Those sound like some awesome things to play with!

It's weird when it's a random song. I guess it's like having a memory randomly surface.

Yes, my brain has a jukebox, and it mainly plays The Beatles (major shock there, huh?) plus a few other oldies and some 80s songs.

This is the first song that comes to mind whenever I'm feeling sad or having a bad day.
