The majority of comments I expect come from Jewish people or Judeophiles. The type of people I expect to be watching these types of videos.

Why would you think that would be the case??

I mean you are posting on religiousforums and not a specifically Jewish forum, so I think you can understand why a person might be interested in religions other than their own. Is that assumption wrong?? So clearly there are people out there interested in religions outside of their own, or this website would not exist.

Overall, I'd say people on YouTube with an interest in Judaism will obviously be the ones watching such videos. This is not just, as you put it, "Jewish people or Judeophiles", but also people interested in religion in general, people from other Abrahamic religions (since Judaism is the oldest), and additionally people who are critical of Judaism (since they still have an interest in Judaism, albeit a critical one).

So I'd personally expect the people seeking out Jewish videos would include: Jews, religion/theology enthusiasts, other Abrahamic religious people, and people critical of Judaism, and thus would expect comment sections to reflect that.

Yes, to call us idolaters and tell us we're going to Hell for eternity because of our idolatry and worshiping false gods (wanna guess who does that?). That we should accept Jesus in to our idolatrous hearts. I swear I've seen these on YT. Funny and sad at the same time.
That's so odd to me. I wouldn't even know how to go about finding a Hindu music video. They really have to be going out of their way to do this.

Only if it's a religion I feel an affinity for... Taoism, Buddhism, Heathenry. Not that there's much Nordic music other than Wardruna and Amon Amarth.
So it's something that you might be looking for on YouTube.

That and why there's so many Spanish speakers commenting.
I'm tipping they are from Latin America. Roman Catholicism is huge there, of course, and it appears to be having some sort of revival lately; young people taking an interest. And you know what I-just-found-Jesus people are like.

How would you go about stumbling upon such a song?

One time I was browsing 4chan and then through following a bunch of links ended up becoming a fan of the Mongolian hip hop scene. The internet's weird like that, one moment you're discussing D&D, the next moment after only three links or so you're watching Ethnic Zorigoo's latest crossover with Zaya and finding that you enjoy a genre of music you never even knew existed before. :p

That's an interesting point and may be a symptom of my different perspective on RF.

Well, you are apparently correct as that's the case. But I find it difficult to understand. Had any of these videos been arguments about Israel and the ME, I'd understand that someone might be interested in defeating arguments of the other side, so they might search for these videos. But a music video? It just seems odd to me.

I had no idea. Actually a lot of them talk about "Yeshua" and I wouldn't have thought RC uses that kind of name. Although I guess they could be using it because they think it sounds more appealing to Jewish ears.

This would be my guess. It's probably spearheading virus-like from the Jews-For-Jesus nonsense.

There are a couple of words here I'm not familiar with, but I get your point. There was one comment from a Christian who claimed she usually listens to a group called Metallica but for some reason she really liked this particular Hassidic song. I guess her story would probably have been similar.

Yeah, some videos are monetised. This just means that views/likes/subs whatever = £££. So I suppose that the creators of these videos maybe aren't as concerned who is watching them, just that someone is. Still, I shouldn't think this is the case with, of all things, Orthodox Jewish music, especially given how far from the mainstream it is. This as well as the fact that YouTube has recently demonetised a whole lot of channels for basically no good reason. One example of this is that I like to listen to creepy stories narrated on YT by various well-known narrators within the horror community, who were making money from this. Recently, seemingly without rationale, their channels have been demonetised. So I find it highly unlikely that anyone, Jewish or Christian, is making any money from this.

I don't often read the comment sections because there are so many inappropriate comments left by people everywhere. Comments left on Jewish religious music videos, I would guess, are most likely left by Jews who have come to know Jesus as their Messiah, which appears to be on the increase. Or Christians who have embraced aspects of what they consider to be the Jewish roots of their faith.

Some of the music I listen to actively is either Yiddish or Irish folk, so obviously those themes are occasionally part of the songs. But, I never care because I'm a sucker for well played fiddles, and tenor singing. There is too much music in the world, and I listen to a lot of it. Classical music is often choral and religious and theme as well, so if you can't get passed that and just appreciate the quality you miss a lot of great stuff. I'm not a fan of Gospel for whatever reason, however. It's not the themes, but that I just don't like the arrangement typically. I like to sing, you can't sing black or death metal you just screech, growl, or rasp it. :D Even then, I find beauty in the chaos and nihilistic. In many ways, they're opposite manifestations but that's the great thing -- you can experience the whole plethora of artistic expressions so why limit yourself. :D

From comments here it seems like I should have expected this type of thing on YouTube.

It's pretty typical because outside of politics it's basically un-moderated. I generally don't even bother with the comment section unless it's some kind of howto video or something and it wasn't clear. Probably better for peace of mind, in any case. :D

Well what about on Christian music videos? Do you have Jews, Muslims, or other religions making comments on those videos? That's what I'd really like to know about. In general what you are seeing is unique to the Christian interest in Judaism.
Ok. I have taken a look around with respect to that curiosity. I looked at a 'Contemporary Worship' video and did not see what you are talking about, a Unity 'Let There Be Peace on Earth' video and a Hillsong 'I Surrender' video. The Hillsong video was laced with Christian testimonials. One person testified against the Roman Catholic church. Another testified against being gay. One thanked Justin Beiber for leading them to this song. (funny) Nobody Jewish showed up and testified to Judaism, and nobody Muslim etc.

I didn't even realize they get money from it.
It depends on their choices when they make the video and whether there are advertisements. If there are advertisements then video producers get a tiny compensation every time the video plays.

  • Read Jesjajahoe (Isaiah) chapter 53, Tehillim (Psalms) chapter 22, Daniyyel (Daniel) chapter 9. Yeshua haMashiach has fulfilled all these prophecies! Hallelu-Yah! HaShem sent the One Who shed His blood, for you! He is the Lamb of G'd, Who takes away the sin of the world! (Yohanan/John 1:29) Pleas, don't think that the New Testament is a antisemitic book. Almost all of the writers were Jewish! Yeshua Himself was a Jew (Mattityahu/Matthew 1:1). I'm so sorry for the sins of the ones who called themselves 'christians', but persecuted you. They didn't follow Yeshua, but the father of all evil [satan]! They didn't obey Yeshua's commandments. His commandments were: Love the Lord, thy G'd, with all of your heart, soul and mind, and: love your neighbour as yourself! Yeshua died for you, so that you can spend eternity with HaShem. He loves you (Yohanan/John 3:16)!!

Note: These are all Ashkenazi singers, which probably appeal more to Western/Christian people. If you check out Mizrahi (Middle Eastern) Jewish Singers, the Christians pretty much disappear (not completely, but more or less) and you have Arabs (usually in Arabic) with comments either like "Kill the Jews" or "I am Muslim and I like this song". Especially Zion Golan, I guess because he puts a lot of Arabic in his songs. There are more Arabic comments than Hebrew ones on his stuff. But i digress.

I've always wondered:

Do members of other religions visit your religion's music videos to leave comments like these?

Do you watch music videos from other religions?

If you are a Christian, do you think it's acceptable behavior to spam other religion's religious music with comments about your beliefs?
Many times I spend my time listening to other kinds of music that are not my own. Recently, I have gotten into Islamic music tradition which I think it's truly beautiful. Whether it's the adhaan or Sami Yusuf, I think Islamic religious music, like any other (religious) music has so much to say and a such strong message in it. So yeah I do listen to songs from other religions.
about comments.. I only comment (if I do comment) on the beauty of the song, the instrumentation, and/or the message of the song..
Being Christian, I do not think it is fair on people to spam with messages about one's faith in another religion's videos. It's a matter of respect and understanding tbh. Try to enjoy the music as it is, and through this music try and learn about the other religion. That's it basically.
Some of the comments you show above..some of them are totally disgraceful.. I wonder how people sometimes lose their time in such silly things.
With Sami Yusuf I have often seen comments of people belonging to various religions who like the song regardless of the fact they are not, let's say Muslim (i.e..I'm a Christian but I like this music).. that's acceptable after all.. and kind of shows that other people notice a wider world. But it goes back to the differences people have drawn up such as if you are a Christian, why should you like other religion's music? And so on...
Personally I'm open to everything and I enjoy everything.

We call these people Christians.

Not necessarily, though rarer there are Messianic Jews. Israel considers them Christians, but they do not themselves really. Most are ethnically Jewish as well... Needless to say, there are several core differences between them and Christians in general, both in scriptural references and theological understandings.

You are right, it doesn't, except that maybe they are excited and zealous about their faith in Christ and want to share it with other Jewish people. Not saying it is appropriate to post those comments, but could be the reason.
