Dogs and cats

They are family as anyone knows who has lost a beloved pet, the grief is as strong as that when loosing a family member.
When my dog dies I am not going to get another

No other dog could ever take her place and would only remind me of her, especially if it was the same breed as her

Plus I can't really walk anymore at least not right now so other people have to look after her :(

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
I have two cats and they are like family to me. I finally had to put my two old, old dogs down this past year and it like to have killed me. I mean, at different times.

Last year we had to put down a lovely old grey hound

He was a good boy but in the end was greatly suffering

I cared for my late daughter's cat after she passed away. Since that cat passed, I have not had another pet save the few spiders that hang out with me in my personal ashram.

Dogs might be what made our species what it is today.
(See Pat Shipman, The Invaders)
or

Cats, on the other hand, just regular pets, aren't they?
I'd talk more about cats, but you need to excuse me, my lord demands that I do my monkey job and pick the ticks from his fur and then serve dinner and get out the catnip toy

Dogs and cats aren't pets

They are family

Had to say goodbye to a member of our family about 3 months ago; it still upsets me as much as if it was yesterday.
This is his urn; painted with his markings.

This is the hardest thing isn't it? Your beloved pet is old. Probably in pain. She can't do the things she used to do and enjoy. It's YOUR job to decide when her life isn't worth living. You can't ask her what she wants. Her life, she is the only one that matters now. I mustn't keep her alive just because I will miss her so much. I'll have one more day with her and decide tomorrow. :anguished:

The two very old dogs I had to put down last year were the last living link to my deceased husband since we had no kids together. We got them both when we'd only been married a few months and raised them both from puppies and they just got old and had to be put down. God bless them both.
