I'm on RF to discuss religious issues. Why should I be annoyed by people offering a RL discussion?
Personally, when I log in RF, I'm open to such discussion. But when I'm napping on my day off and I'm not expecting it, then I'm annoyed when the conversation is thrust upon me all of a sudden.

If one has not a blind-faith, then, there is nothing to get annoyed. If one is busy at that time, one could tell them to come when one is available, please, right?

Right?

There was an age where door knocking was completely acceptable. You had the Fuller Brush man and the Avon lady. But that has changed. It is no longer acceptable for anyone to knock at your door unless they are family, friend, someone you have business with, or someone in an emergency. Door knockers are considered highly irritating. No one wants to hear about the magazines someone is selling or read their Watchtower magazines.
Why get afraid or be annoyed of the JWs, they are just like other peoples?

Regards

Door knockers.

The religious folk who walk up to your front door and knock.

What are your thoughts on this practice? Do you mind when door knockers come to your house?

A pastor and his daughter woke me up from my nap today to invite me to their church. I minded a bit but wasn't gonna make a fuss with the daughter present (I got a bit of decency).

One of these days I plan on inviting one of these door knockers in for an honest discussion on our religious beliefs. There are many ways one can effectively go about arguing against the Christian faith. Next one to wake me up from a nap I will deChristify I swear...

I definitely mind a bit, the whole door knocking. I don't knock on churches door, telling them I believe they are wrong.
They never come knocking at my door

I have not yet decided how I would respond to that

I can understand your position. I'm pretty much antisocial, and I don't like people knocking on my door for any reason other than possibly an emergency. If they're selling something, politics, religion, vacuum cleaners or anything, I'm reluctant to answer because I'm not in the market. On the other hand, I respect that the obligation of a Christian is to inform and invite, not to argue, judge or convert. In that light I am somewhat more tolerant. I'm willing to have a discussion, but I'm not going to argue. I think it's foolish. Even on forums like this I'm usually quick to bow out.

Well, I'd get annoyed at anyone knocking at my door to proselytize... Proselytizing in general annoys me.

(I know you didn't ask me, but I answered anyways.)
To me, it shows that one is not sure of oneself.
One could also write on the door, "don' knock at my door", nobody will bother one.

I wouldn't say I'm not sure of myself.

I just think its terribly rude.

"My worldview is better than your worldview" is what I hear. Which, is dangerously close to "I am better than you", which is a huge pet peeve of mine.

I can handle an array of difficult personality traits without much trouble. However, snobbery is one I've never been able to put up with.

Perhaps its a flaw on my end to perceive such as snobbery, but I'm okay with being flawed.

JWs are not like other people. I have had a good relationship with them in the past, but they are not necessarily at all open to dialogue. For example, I've heard them talking about handing out their pamphlets and refusing to take the same from others. Also, if you happen to be disfellowshipped without them knowing you are, for example you are visiting or just moved, they would be obligated to shun you as they would their own family.

I don't really mind as long as it isn't in the morning. I have invited in them for a discussion a couple of times, and sent them away with the answer that I'm not interested and there haven't been any fuzz about it.

So long as they accept "not interested" and don't knock at dinner time I'm not the type to restrict their freedom to waste their time knocking, but I've pretty much heard the marketing religious scams of all these door knockers on RF, so the likelihood of them gathering any more than a "not interested" is effectively nil. In other words they are wasting their time apart from any exercise value they get from walking up my driveway.

I mind it very much. It's all condescendening and patronizing. Fortunately for the past four years I've been living in a condo complex first and now an apartment complex which prohibit solicitations of any kind. When I lived in a single family house I was fortunate that I could easiy see who was coming up my driveway and walkway to the door. I had only to ignore the doorbell or knocking on the door. On the few unfortunate occasions that I was caught with my guard down and asked "May we share the good news with you?" I responded with a firm but polite "No thank you, I have different beliefs and follow different good news".

Where I live JW door knockers don't appear at doors any more. About 15 years ago when they were still diligent I didn't mind at all. I understand this is what they have to do. I just politely said I'm not interested and wished them a nice day. They were also polite.

I don't knock on churches door, telling them I believe they are wrong.

And this is a predictably distorted characterization.

I suspect that those who knock on your door are not there to tell you what you're doing wrong but to convey what they believe is right, and to do so only if you are upen to such a conversation. It is no more insidious that a political canvasser knocking on your door.

I'm fine with it.

If they are right, then by default I am wrong since I disagree with them. So they are telling me I am in the wrong, and coming up to my front door to do so.

Characterizing it how you did was moot.

How do you feel about political canvassing?
As my profile name suggests, I consider myself an anarchist. I don't like it, it makes me uncomfortable.

The political people don't knock on doors around here, but they approach you in store parking lots wielding clipboards and asking "Are you registered to vote?". I'm polite for the most part, and usually puzzle them by saying "I don't vote." before going on my way. Though I sure would like to tell them off at times for asking me that in the first place.
