Down Syndrome

There are some religious people that I speak with who constantly bring a heavenly GOD down to our earthly level. God’s emotions, interests, behavior are almost mirrored to the emotions, interests and behavior of humans.

There are also some religious people (sometimes the same people) who think very little of humankind as a species. Though the Bible speaks more of the unworthiness of humankind bringing attention to our faults and imperfections, there are many people even today, after all that we have learned and experienced that have very little hope that humans can be loving, considerate Beings even though there has been a great deal of progress and accomplishment in our history. As a final note there are some religious people who also think that animals are below the superiority of humankind even though the animal kingdom has not given humans any indication or evidence that they are inferior or even interested in our human behavior.

I seem to notice that a pattern is emerging and it seems to be pointing down. Has anyone else experienced this syndrome from other individuals? Is this a positive output to express about GOD and our society in general? Do we do justice to GOD when we humanize Him? Do we tend to focus on the negative of humans and forget about the good?

...could it be that the more humans there are, the more chance there is for mutations. Plus, the numbers of downsyndrome will go up while humans live longer and there are more people. This allows more people to be born, and since children hardly die now, they live longer, and there are more of them. The beauty of technology...

Well the Bible humanizes God quite a bit. God speaks and expresses human emotions like love, anger, frustration. In the New Testament, Jesus is God. That's pretty human.

This is a very difficult question to form without succumbing to down syndrome myself but is it possible for a spiritual entity like GOD who has existed many moments for the purpose of perfection to display these human aspects? I guess what I am trying to say is that GOD may be very understanding of many human conditions, is there the possibility that from the creation of mankind onward that GOD has been infected by us? Now it sounds like a chicken before the egg question.

Biblically speaking, we were made in HIS image...not vice versa. So, no...I don't think He's been infected by US at all.

I think it's a human thing...trying to understand something that really (if you believe in G-d) is not understandable as best we can. What else have we got to go by besides humanity? Metaphor's imperfect, certainly, but it can also be a good thing. It's when you forget that understanding isn't going to be perfect that things become problematic.

This is certainly a lucky break for us.
Just imagine how shocked and terrified all the other, poor, oddly configured folks in the universe will be when they face the bizarre, two legged, hominoid body of God on Judgement day! :D

I think there have always been and always will be those who see the glass as half empty rather than half full. I agree with you that the situations you described in your first two paragraphs are not really helpful or healthy.

I don't see this as a positive output about either God or society. No, we do not do justice to God when we humanize him. God is an impartial energy and doesn't treat humans like we treat one another.

What I have found is that those with rigid beliefs do tend to focus on the negative of humans and often don't see the good. It is sad to say but there is a tendency to find fault with others. I have found that when I take responsibility for my own life and actions then I don't have a lot of time to think about the faults that others may have. I'm too busy taking care of my own challenges. And given the fact that the only person I can change is myself, I find it much less stressful to be focused on the changes I want to make rather than on how I want someone else to change when they have no desire or willingness to do so.
