Dudeism

This thread would be better served as a vehicle for discussing how film and other forms of media influence our thoughts about faith and NRMs. The fact that a movie apparently made up a NRM and, the fact that said NRM has gotten attention here has a myriad of possibilities that the Academy and interested persons alike should discuss. Maybe we can pull out and nuance some of the implications. I'll go first.

How does a religion like Dudeism translate from a Hollywood film to real life? Does a devotee adhere to the precepts described in the film, or do they add their own spin to the faith in order to "fill in the gaps" and flesh out the religion?

Any followers of Dudeism or any other Hollywood inspired NRM feel like contributing?
