It seems that Gearbox Software acquired rights to the franchise, and with most of the former 3DRealms development team working for them now, they are going to finish DNF and release it next year.

After waiting this long, nothing will live up to my standards. It could be the best game ever made and I will still be disappointed.Even if it does come out, the question is whether or not it will live up to the hype that has accumulated over a decade. I loved the original Duke3D as a kid, so due to nostalgic memories I'm kind of hoping it turns out good.
I was the same way for Too Human, but I had to wait 10 ^_^Duke Nukem Forever... Coming out next year? :biglaugh: What a joke.
Also, I would NOT buy a game based on how much hype it receives. I waited for Spore for nearly 2 years for that reason, and EA turned it into a steaming pile of ****.

Considering the critics tend to only play these games for a few hours before giving reviews, and base their scores on grab-value(at least if their reviews of Splatterhouse vs. that of an actual fan of the series is any indication), I'm going to wait to see what the DN fanbase has to say about it.
So, they've since spoken, and the game looks pretty worthless now. The critics are right in this case, it would seem.
