Eco-Tourism

One of the most popular eco-tourism activities in Sarajevo is also one of the least eco-friendly - paragliding. It's classified as a eco-tourism activity because it keeps locals and tourists away from ecologically sensitive areas - they just fly over them instead.

I suppose it's the same as anything else - white-water rafting is classified as eco-tourism and you have to drive there in gas-guzzling automobiles... so...

I'm just curious, do you consider this to be eco-tourism? Here's a few pictures from a class trip:

Looks like fun, but you can do a lot more with a real hang-glider.

We have hang-gliders soaring from the mountains that border the city to the East all the time. There are updrafts that will keep you up as long as you want -- or till the sun sets and the wind ceases.
On a good day you can soar North, past Santa Fe, for at least a couple hundred Km. If the winds change, though, you might get stuck pretty far from home.

As far as I know, no-one considers this Eco-tourism, though.
