Ectoplasm vs Astral body. Are they the same thing?

Websites like Wiki and Britannica explains ectoplasm as a white, viscous substance that comes out of the openings of the physical body of spiritualist mediums, once they are in a trance like state during seance.
It is visible only in a darkened room/atmosphere.
Once the ectoplasm comes out of the medium's physical body, it is then used by nearby spirit entities to materialize/manifest themselves in this material world.

There have been cases in the late 1800s and early 1900s (hoping they were genuine and not fakes) where more than one spirit entity materialized in the ectoplasm (which was emitted by the medium).

Could it be that this ectoplasm is the same thing as the astral/subtle body? ... If so, then why do you think earthbound spirits need OUR ectoplasm or astral bodies (which is a part of us humans) to manifest themselves?
I mean don't they manifest just fine in haunted houses (without the aid of our ectoplasm) and spook the residents.

What are your opinions on this matter?

All I know about ectoplasm is that it weighs 0.1 and is worth 25 gold.

That and it fortifies magicka and destruction, restores magicka, and damages health.

If something like this existed or were possible, then they should stop cheating, stealing, possessing, living vicariously through others and incarnate into their own Earthly meat sac to get their ectoplasm and fix.

I believe ectoplasm is part of the higher physical sub-planes. The astral plane is a separate plane all together finer than the the physical.

These higher physical planes include things like prana energy and that is used in the creation of ectoplasm. These planes of nature are often referred to as 'etheric' (which are between the gross physical and the astral.

In answer to your question just consider the 6th (astral) and 7th (physical) planes.

Interesting.
Do you think the subtle body or sookshma sharira, falls under the higher physical sub-planes (etheric planes) or does it fall under the astral plane?

In the chart above I think the etheric body, astral body and the mental body are the sookshma sharira.

But I'm not 100% confident that I'm completely right.
