Does one have to basically suppress and transforms the ego, in order to experience unio mystica?

Matthew 18:4
Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

James 4:10
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Philippians 2:7
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

Or realize that the personality, the person, is temporal but the ONE is eternal, inherent, intrinsic?

Jeremiah 31:34
And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

which is what the author was speaking of in?

John 5:19
Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

and Paul was reiterating?

1 Corinthians 2:16
For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.

No, the ego, the searcher, will find that which it seeks.

so thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven isn't the mystical in-corporating itself into the practical, or the mystical absorbing the earthly into a more wholistic reality?

12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. 13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. 14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

I am God's son, some would think that it is ego talking but its not. Now if I were to say I am God's son and you are not, now that is ego talking. (a baby ego I might add)

BTW, Freud, the father of the ego term believed in a trinity as well.

In a sense, yes. But rather than "suppress" or "transform", the ego (and normal, everyday waking consciousness) must come to an abrupt cessation for the mystical experience of union or oneness to come about.

A fairly good explanation, very "by the book", as it were, but not altogether accurate. If anything, it's more about the expansion of awareness, where the ego literally goes beyond its former conceptions of itself - embracing unity with a far larger vision of being... oneness. :)

Edit: I do agree there is a cessation of the former understanding.

energy cannot be created, or destroyed, but it can be transformed. awareness doesn't come into being and out of being. it is then mutable. that awareness must become instilled in the mundane for it to become realized. kalki

“Belief, like fear or love, is a force to be understood as we understand the theory of relativity and principals of uncertainty. Phenomena that determine the course of our lives. Yesterday, my life was headed in one direction. Today, it is headed in another. Yesterday, I believe I would never have done what I did today. These forces that often remake time and space, that can shape and alter who we imagine ourselves to be, begin long before we are born and continue after we perish. Our lives and our choices, like quantum trajectories, are understood moment to moment. That each point of intersection, each encounter, suggest a new potential direction. Proposition, I have fallen in love with Luisa Rey. Is this possible? I just met her and yet, I feel like something important has happened to me.”

Interesting. I'm not sure how well the notion the ego persists through the mystical experience of oneness jives with the evidence from the neurosciences, though, that it apparently doesn't. See "Why God Won't Go Away", by Newberg and D'Aquili. But perhaps we're not talking about precisely the same thing.

Meditation is developed , like any skill.

The problem that most people encounter , it seems, is that they do not develop the meditation, they merely try to meditate in a style that needs previous reference.

This is how some people can meditate for years, without advancing. /seems common.

This is also how advanced meditation can be differentiated from faulty methods, because when practicing meditation without the basis that leads to advanced styles, the person will not know things that they should be ascertaining from their practice

Using tools for meditation is the best way to realize how meditative states can work.

//ie you have to learn how to meditate, before meditating for optimal results.

///there are different "types" of meditation, however they all function in a similar manner.

'Ego' is not going to be understood by everyone the same way. In this sense, it is an abstract concept, and simply learning how to meditate will make this abstraction non important.

I'm thinking my response might not be so far off what the good doctors are saying, just another viewpoint.

The ego is a structure through which life is lived for a time. Sooner or later in one life or eventually, that structure dissolves and experience is different leading to eventually becoming One with God.

I wouldn't call the ego a "beast" since -- so far as I can tell -- it serves a very useful function as a kind of self-defense mechanism. It does, however, cause a lot of trouble.
